View Full Version : Third successful feed!

So my cute little BRB has successfully fed for the third time. I've decided he's a 'lazy' eater. This is the second time he's slithered on up to the fuzzy and carefully inspected it before just slowly latching on to it.
This time I was kind of 'scared' I was going to get tagged 'cause he kept slowly slithering up the fuzzy's body. He got to my fingers and stopped, turned his head down, and latched onto the fuzzy's hind end. Sure does seem like he knows the difference between my smell and a mousie's smell. LOL And no, I'm not serious, I'm just saying it -seems- that way, but I still do expect to be tagged eventually.
Anywho, and then, after he swallowed it, I saw something I wouldn't of thought I'd see, let alone catch on video! After he was done, he eased it on down a little before beginning to slither out of his little container. So, I had the bowl of water the mouse had thawed in right beside the container he was in, just an inch gap, so I gently pulled him up enough to not get hit and scooted the water closer, then sat him back down onto the bowl's edge. He then slithered on down and took a big drink of water! Glad I got to watch~ Thought I wouldn't of caught that so soon.~
Videos for all!

Congrats!
Brazilians drink long and often. I have one senior male who breaks for the water right after he eats. Almost all the others, from juvenile on up, take a soak right away after (and presumably drink, it's just not as obvious).

I appreciate that. I try not to worry, but I would be lying if I weren't. Still whatever happens...happens.

Ahhhh c: .. I was afraid maybe he was dehydrated 'cause he drank for so long, even though I keep fresh water in there daily D: I guess that's just a BRB thing.~ And Tea, it's great to hear your BP is doing so well with the move.~
Anywho, don't worry Nenna, I'm sure she'll come around eventually :c

Cat food is the best food for rats. Got a little bit of everything they need. Even the overly cheap stuff.
Anyways when you say "dum" what exactly do you mean? Cause I have never seen or heard of it until coming here.

and i was feeding the rat bread and cheese and fruit and stuff for a WHILE then when i realized nigma clearly wasn't going to eat anytime soon i got the birdcage from my friends grandma and bought a bag of rat chow called "fiesta", i assume its called that because it has a lot of random stuff in it. sunflower seeds, peanuts, grain stuff lol.
now i have 2 snakes, a gecko, a dog, and a rat
(until nigma gets hungry again anyway, ;) )

Oooo~ That's one gorgeous snake you got <3 I find just some simple rat pellets will suffice, if you want to be cheap. $2 or $3 dollars.

ty, he hasn't seemed interested in food the last 2-3 months at ALL, but i noticed his eyes are clouded atm, so he will shed in a few days. hopefully he'll be hungry after that.
it'll be his 2nd shed with me :)

If it helps put it in perspective, many of my animals are being fussy right now too. I offered three adults meals last night, two fo them who had not eaten in two weeks, and one who had not eaten in three. All of them refused. I left meals overnight with two of them (one ate) and moved the third meal to another snake's cage (she ate too). But I now have two adult females that will have been three and four weeks without food, respectively -- not dangerous, really, but annoying.

Is it a sort of seasons thing? I remember reading some posts here and there about it being 'that season' again. No idea what that would mean, though. Breeding season?

It *is* breeding season, but for Brazilians that usually explains males. Of the three, the one who eventually ate was the boy. Guess we'll see what next week brings....

Well I don't think I have to worry about my boy not eating quite yet. Maybe next year or so, but I don't think he's old enough to be ready for breeding season or to react to it. Then again, I could be wrong, but it's still nommin' on his fuzzies, so I'm not too concerned.

Nope, too young; I was more replying to NennaMeerkat. Yours shouldn't be interested in girls until at least 2.5 years old, maybe even 3.5.
