So my precious BRB's belly looked a little funny and she refused food on her typical feeding day (ate 2 days later). She had recently shed, but I suspected belly/scale rot.

I took her in to the vet this morning and.......PERFECTLY HEALTHY!!!

Apparently it was just a skin pigment transformation (she shed about 10 days ago). I was being a worry wort daddy and assumed the worst (the food refusal--she's never missed a meal--coupled with the belly discoloration threw up a red flag).

Her weight is perfect, no respiratory problems, no heart problems (I got to hear her heart with a doppler "thing"!). She does have some gas though ;)

I'm going to bring a fecal sample next time she takes care of business to make sure she doesn't have a parasite, but I am very relieved!

I was ecstatic and thought I'd share!

Yey! c: Always good to hear good news~ My BRB's belly seems to change colors too. Sometimes it's light pinkish, sometimes it's white as can be.

Im glad to hear everythings fine!! Yayy :). I was wondering if its bad that my snake has some dark looking color under her body? It was fully white before so I was just wondering? New to snakes here by the way so sorry if this is an easy one.

I know that colors change as some animals get older, I couldn't imagine it being any different for snakes.

Thanks everyone!

@ Neena: It was my Brazilian Rainbow Boa (BRB)! ;) All my BPs are doing great though! And my JCP just shed a couple hours ago :D

@ Myksbrocks: Is it pigmentation? Or does it seem to be "spreading" to other ventral scales? If it is necrosis of the scales, you'll need to get your snake to the vet ASAP. Pics would be helpful. However, my BRB has dark pigment spots on here and there on the sides of her belly. That is normal. Again, pics would be helpful (the clearer the better).

When snakes get excited/scared/go into feeding response their belly scales can go pink as the blood rushes to the surface. Some of my scrubbies almost look red on their belly when food enters their enclosures.

Glad your snake is fine!

Thanks! I've never noticed that, but this was not that type of change/response. (I will keep an eye out for that next time I feed the group!)

This was actually a change in pigmentation; I'm well aware of dorsal and lateral pattern and color changes, but had never experienced or seen ventral changes (except during shed--my normal BP's belly turns pink, my mojave's turns brown, my JCP's turns a blueish hue, etc.).

Thanks for the kind words everyone!
