As far as I can tell, aspen works for all snakes, lizards, other burrowing animals as well as birds, turtles and tarantulas. It's also a pretty green bedding since new shoots grow easily from the trunks of felled trees. I use it for my ksb and my daughter uses it for her hamster. It's very easy to work with and holds the burrows that my snake makes.
I like repti-bark. It looks good, smells good, holds humidity well, is easy to spot clean and can be cleaned/reused after full cage cleanings.
No mold problems that you can get with aspen and mid-humidity snakes (i.e., BPs). IMHO

I vote for reptibark, use it for all my reptiles.
Here is an caresheet that explains a lot of information on the different types of substrates for JCP's

I keep all my carpets on aspen and have been for years. They do great and shed perfectly every time. I have never in over 3 years had a single carpet have a bad shed. It's always one perfect piece. I have 7 carpets and they are all kept on aspen.
