The Crimson corn is a beefed-up "Miami phase"that's also hypomelanistic. page 114 corn snake manual by Bill & Kathy Love . At least I'm reading my new book ?

I have heard it called a "red cornsnake" or a "Crimson cornsnake" i'm guessing one of those

well.......
it was sold to me as a rootbeer phase cornsnake, there are some people that acknowledge this as a colour phase, but i did alot of research and Im not sure I really buy into it

High Sierra sells rootbeer corns and they look pretty similar
http://www.**************/highsierra/htm/sp_corn_rootbear.htm

so.....i eventually thought (if it wasnt a rootbeer) that it was closest to a crimson (aka hypo miami).

thats my opinion anyways, its a confusing subject

Are rootbeer corns the normal color phase of creamsicles ( the creamsicle orange color being the amel version of great plains ratsnake X corn)??

thanks,

Very pretty snake. I seen some Rootbeers in Maryland at a show and this does look like one. Rootbeers appear to be in the same catagory as the Creamsicle. My feelings are, if it would breed naturally in nature in which this intergrade does, what is the problem. Not to start a fight here, just my opinion. I have some beauitful Creams and when I sell them I just let the people know up front what they are. Most people just want the beauitful snake with the bright colors...

mary, ya your right, the creamsicle is an amel corn x great plains....and apparently the rootbeer is just a normal corn x great plains rat.
im guessing if i breed him to a female amel and then breed the offsping together, 24% should be true creamsicles.....i guess I'll see ;)

Matt - that is a beautiful snake, and if this is what the non-albino of creamsicles turn out like, I might be tempted to get one - very striking coloration.

Hope H - you should post some photos of your creamsicles - I would love to see more of the color range in them --

wohoo so when i said creamsicle i was right???

Matt

well....its not a creamsicle, creamsicle is the name given when you have the amel gene mixed in there as well.

as you can see, creams look real different than the "rootbeer"

Glad I was too wussy to venture a guess! All I thought was that there was too much orangey-brown to be a crimson, other than that I had no clue. ;)

Thanks for not keeping me in suspense too long. Thanks also for the great pic of a lovely snake. I have no problem with elaphe hybrids myself. They mix in nature occasionally, right? So what's the problem? It would be different if either species were endangered, but there are plenty of corn and ratsnakes thankfully.
