View Full Version : Greetings! Carpet enthusiast here.
Hey all, glad to have joined and looking to learn and contribute. My main fascination is with the Carpet Pythons and Jags of Irian Jaya and JCPs.
Still new to learning about the morphs. Very fascinated by the breeding of different snakes for different patters and how clutches will be 25% 50% 25% of different types in some scenarios.

Hello and welcome! You came to the right place tons of carpet python lover here. Any question just ask away.:)
Welcome! Genetics can be very confusing! Imagine a clutch with a predicted outcome of:
1 x 6.25%
1 x 6.25%
1 x 6.25%
1 x 6.25%
1 x 12.5%
1 x 12.5%
1 x 12.5%
1 x 12.5%
1 x 25%
o_0 And that's just one example that I could produce off the top of my head...it can get "worse..." LOL
Hey guys, thanks for the responses! I've done a lot of reading on the breeding and now would like to try breeding a few snakes. My background is turtles, but snakes have just kinda grown on me and especially the carpet varieties. The jags look awesome and I'd like to breed those, so I'll be getting a male this week.
What kinds of adults and offspring could you get with a mix of 1 x 6.25%
1 x 6.25%
1 x 6.25%
1 x 6.25%
1 x 12.5%
1 x 12.5%
1 x 12.5%
1 x 12.5%
1 x 25% ???
As far as females, a Jungle, Irian Jaya, and a Coastal. I know that there are people who do not like to cross the species, but what would you try out with these?
Current group will be:
Males:
Jungle Jag
Jungle
Females:
Coastal
Irian Jaya
Jungle
Female jag
I wont do jag x jag. Not sure what it would be like to set up 25% babies for certain death.
