So I'm a new snake owner and maybe that is where i went wrong. I bought my ball from REPTICON exactly 3 weeks ago today and i picked what looked like the healthiest one for about 40 dollars. He is about 3ft looks and absolutely beautiful. But I noticed about 2 weeks ago that he was urinating pretty frequently or what i thought was urine. Its a really yellow, sometimes green color. It started pretty infrequently and has progressed to him "going" about 5-6 times a day. I have to change the newspaper every 2 days. Today i started to get him out of the tank and he started going and the yellowish liquid turned to blood and it wasn't a little bit, it was a stream of blood. He has bled out of his bum one more time since then but not nearly as much. After much searching the internet i have found no reason to cause this, i stumbled upon this site and joined in the hope of someone being able to tell me what is up with my snake and what i should do for him. PLEASE HELP!

Welcome to the forum..

You need to get that snake to a qualified vet ASAP, the faster the better..

This is extremely serious stuff your describing.

If it is a male, he may have prolapsed his weiner and tore it up, this sounds infected already..

Then after going to the vet I would find the breeder you got the snake from and get your money back regardless of what happens to the snake.

I am very sorry this has happened to you. Hope everything turns out okay.

I am so sorry to hear about your troubles. Definitely get the snake to a vet quickly and contact the breeder/seller.

Thanks guys, i'm looking into finding a good vet. If i can't find one i'll just take him to the animal hospital i guess.

The breeders refuse to give me the money back because its outside of their 14 day warranty which is total BS.

At this point then, that snake's health is paramount, it is depending on you now.

Besides that, if the breeder gave you back the money, they would probably just either let the snake die or put it down.

Good luck finding medical care, and please keep us posted on how that snake makes out.

Where do you live?

Concord, NC.

I let the snake soak in the tub thinking maybe it was constipated or something, he seemed to enjoy it but i noticed that he seems rather swollen towards his back end. He keeps his tail lifted straight up all the time also, it's pretty weird.

I havent seen anymore blood but as im getting paid friday i'll be sure to take him to the vet to get everything checked out.

I hope he gets better...I've never heard of cloacal bleeding, but it would have to be due to some kind of internal rupture and that can't be good. At least he is still with you. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

I wonder if the breeder popped the snake and damaged it that way? I've been told that popping isn't advised for anything other than babies?

Please keep us posted... how's the little guy doing?

I've only ever had one snake with bizarre cloacal issues. I once purchased a WC Spilotes from what turned out to be a less-than-reputable seller. I was new to reptile shows and assumed everyone was good people. I got the snake home and he stunk awful. I put him in my tub for a soak, and the snake started sucking down water like he'd never seen it before. There was also a lot of green sandy mucus-y stuff coming out of the cloaca, so much so that the snake was unable to close the cloaca. I called the seller immediately and he said to soak it overnight. Using my better judgement- a snake left in water for 8 hours didn't sound like a good idea to me- I soaked it for a half hour, then put it back in its quarantine cage on moist paper towels. The snake was dead the next morning. I honestly think there was some sort of intestinal infection. But no blood...I had to take one of my cats to the vet for shots last night, and I mentioned your snake troubles. He said the only things that could cause bleeding like that are bowel or intestinal rupture. If the blood was brown/black and gritty, the rupture was higher up, but if it was bright red the rupture was down low in the bowel. He said get it to a local vet and it will probably need surgery. I hope you find a good vet and get your BP taken care of. I'm so so sorry you're going through this...some sellers are just scum. I've learned over the years to look people up on the Fauna BOI before I buy, regardless of how good their prices are or what people around them at shows say. Anymore, there are only a few select people I give my business to anyway. I hope you post again with some good news, but we're here for you regardless.

well it will probably be because his gall bladder has developed a stone, making it painful for him to urinate, it can get infected so i would seriously see a vet asap hope this helped:)

Sounds like a super heavy internal parasite load.
