I know that KSBs like a dry environment which mine is (humidity ~45% on the cool side--less on the warm side), but my little girl (Eryx) really seems to need help with her shed. She's shed improperly three times in the last month and a half. Do I put her in a warm, damp hide, soak her in lukewarm water for 20 minutes, leave her alone or what? We've had to help her remove her eye caps after her second shed of retention, but she hasn't had a clean body shed since her first shed shortly after I purchased her.
This is my first shed and hes having trouble as well. Hes in walnut shell with a humidity level of 25-30%. Went out and bought an Exo Terra rock hide and left some water with moss in it. Hes in there now. See how he does. Im not sure what the rules are with KSB and humidity.

What are you doing to maintain humidity? You should be placing a small water dish in here every 3 days or so. Works best that way. Maybe keep it in there a little longer during shed cycles.
For now see what it does. If it doesn't come off on it's own with a humid hide then you'll have to help.
Is there a care sheet on shedding? Or how do you help? Pull it off?
Update on my guy: I just opened up his hide and hes got most of it off. Seems like the moist hide was all he needed. :)

Yesterday evening I place Eryx into a 1 1/2" warm bath with a terry cloth towel for half an hour. I kept the water somewhat warm by putting the tupperware container on top of her warming pad (it still cooled off, but not as quickly as without the pad). She loved swimming over and under the air bubbles within the towel. As soon as she tried to stretch to get out of the container I took her out and gently rubbed the rest of her shed off with an old, warm, damp microfibre cloth. It worked immensely well and Eryx is finally shed free!!! Next step, get her to feed (she hasn't eaten for a month)

For some reason all my snakes love there moist hides aside from the KSBs, they love the sand. Even after misting its there favorite place.

Kinda makes sense, Shmoges, considering ksb's are desert snakes!! Eryx won't use her humidity hide unless I actually put her in it!

this guy seeks out the hide. musta been a watery snake in a past life?
I often wondered how sand boas shed with such dry conditions. Does the sand help them with the shed?

I have a friend with a KSB and shes never had to give him anything additional in light of humidity.

Maybe I'm just over-concerned. The last shed Eryx had most of her skin came off whole--all except her tail and her head. I usually don't do anything until she's retained these parts over two sheds, if possible. It was a little scary when she seemed to continually shed over 5 weeks, though, so I probably panicked for no good reason. She ate last week for the first time in 7 weeks and she still has a retained head and tail shed. Other than that she looks great. I guess I'll just keep plugging away and love her as much as she will let me (don't worry, that doesn't mean I won't keep to the rules about handling after feeding or around shedding). Thanks to everyone for their input!
