View Full Version : road rash!

so i was at my friends today, and his grandma found some decent branches to be made into snake perches. its been wet lately and i've been skating in the rain and taking crappy care of my skateboard, so the bearings are all rusty and it takes like twice the energy to skate across town because i slow down twice as fast.
So i'm skating home, holding the branches in my left hand. i hit a dip in pitch black and normally i'd roll right over it but because my wheels were extra sticky i fell straight forward instinctually putting my hands and elbows out to brace the fall (falling on TOP of the branches breaking them all up under me) and scraping the hell out of myself lol. i got right up and stomped around for a minute like i always do when i fall, then i shook it off and skated home >.< no snake perch and some free road rash!! it sucked!!!

i used to fall like that on my board but i learned to roll. next time try throwing your left or right shoulder (whichever is your dominant side) and rolling, works like a charm for me and is cool for the ladies ^_^ lol

^ ^ ^ as long as you get it right. I did this type of roll during martial arts training about six years back, probably done the roll about a thousand times but for some reasondidn't tuck my shoulder under properly, took about 250lb of weight plus the momentum of diving from 6ft 8in tall onto the point of my shoulder and crushed the AC joint, even after surgery, they removed the end of my collar bone as it was forced into the joint and i left it three months before seeing a doctor so they couldnt manipulate it back out, still have problems with it now.

ouch rob. and i had no time to roll or do anything. i went from full standing with abuncha large branches in my hands to laying on the ground on my belly in about .5 seconds lol.
and it is TOTALLY the bearings, i skate home ALL the time and roll over 9/10 of that crap, but since the bearings were super sticky, the board happily just stopped and i kept going! and the bearings are so bad right now, that they are actually rubbing the trucks and making them heat up. it's messed up lol.
i HAD some WD-40 but someone took it lol.

i'd get a new complete if you have been skating in the rain everything is probably rusted out and anything you add or do probably wont work for long

i know, i've skated for years. it's just my only mode of transportation at the moment (besides my Shoebaru's) so i've been skating through the rain. my experience is unless the bearings are actually ruined a soaking in oil or WD-40 will bring them back to life. question is whether i've caused irreperable harm or not ;)

Strip them down and soak the bearings overnight in wd40, they will have to be pretty bad for that not to work.

Not to hijack your thread, but my skateboard has 2 wheels and a motor.
No stranger to pain here, Flubbed up jumping once and the handlebars got me in the face through the opening in the front of my helmet.
I would have to say though, the worse I ever had to cope with was when I got my hand jammed into the bogies of a snowmobile while traveling quite fast, I hid a large chunk of ice and my right hand slipped off the handlebars, I fell over to one side and I instinctively put my hand out to break the fall, Somehow my hand hot wrapped up in the undercarriage and took a ride through the bogie wheels and ended up in the big plastic idle sprocket, crushed some bones that day.
All I know is that those steel pins feel weird and when the doctor pulled the pins back out, he didn't use any pain killer.

Best thing next to WD-40 that you'll always have on you.... Spit.
