I still look, but realize I can't afford to save every ill cared for snake.
Most of my attempts to rescue CL snakes go like this.
"Hello, I was wondering if you'd be willing to waive your rehoming fee as I don't need the enclosure or lights. I have a lot of experience with reptiles, and have a dedicated reptile room that is temperature and humidity controlled. I'd be willing to let you inspect my facilities, or send you pictures of my reptile room."
"sry, i ned 100$ rehoming fee 2 mak sur my corn snak gose 2 a gud hom"

disgusting. its not re-homing they just want some money and their snake is something that they can sell. i swear people need to sign a contract stating that they can and are willing to take care of the snake for the entirety of its life. and only certain circumstances can allow for a re-homing and must be approved by a registration board or something. cause many snakes im sure pass hands a lot in their lives and coming from someone who lived in about 20 different places growing up (give or take 1 or 2) and switching between his parents and his various aunts as he was growing because i have felons for parents and they were going to jail and such. i know its no fun.

License snake owners, pool the money worldwide to provide antivenin and positive publicity for the hobby, case solved!!

CL is a horror fest sometimes. I have saved and given new homes (after rehabbing a bit) for several animals mostly stuff like rabbits and guinea pigs though since I have more experience with rodents.

I know. You never know with CL. There are soo many animals on there that I would love to take in to get them away from their naive or neglectful owners. But, if I took in every animal that needed a home, I'd end up with too many to care for and then I would be the irresponsible, neglectful one because not one would get the time it needed. I comfort myself with that thought. We do what we can to give our animals the best care that we can, and try to educate others, and if we have the money and time and space to occasionally rescue one, we can and feel good about it. It is hard, but one cannot be the savior to every animal out there.

Its really sad when you see the pictures and the home of the animal or the animal itself is just in poor condition. Got a guinea pig that had what they call "stargazer"...its a mild neurological disorder where their head is constantly cocked to the side...from a person on CG who was selling it for snake food simply because of that. Rescued the poor thing and found it a nice home with someone who had other "special need" guineas so he could live out his life nicely.
If I knew more about reptiles in general I would probably rescue them like I used to do the various rodents. Its always nice when someone rescues and finds a new home, and for me it was always rewarding doing so.

...pool the money worldwide to provide antivenin...
Just because I feel like it. Who does this antivenin goto? Venomous snake keepers? I surely don't want MY hard earned money going to some idjit who thinks he's 'experienced' enough to own a gaboon viper and gets it in the face!
PS. I came to the resolution a long time ago you can only ensure proper care for your own snakes and be satisfied that they live an amazing life. All this CL stuff. Don't even bother. Just keeps the cycle going because someone gave this person 100 bucks to go buy another animal.

Very true. Just like the idiot who is trading a car or snow machine because he "wants to breed pythons." Or the idiot who wants to trade his boa for a BP morph because he/she is bored with the boa. These people make me sick. (Sorry for the rant.)
I must agree with the above as well; I don't want some inexperienced keeper to buy a gabby (or any hot for that matter) that later tags him and WE have to pay for his treatment.
However, Rob, I love the idea of positive publicity for the herp community! I think that children should be exposed to reptiles at a young age to banish the fear that is impregnated into their minds by their ignorant parents.

I was thinking more for the accidental bite in the wild rather than the idiot poking a stick a cobra. The majority (if i was king of the world) would be spent on education. Instead of a fishtank in primary schools they should all have a cornsnake set up!

darn skippy a snake in every classroom is where people get used to snakes i know when i was in 8th grade my science teacher helped people get over the fear of snakes cus he had to ground boas in the room and i even got to feed them once which i loved cus my mom would let me have any snake cus she was scared of them lol

Thanks for the clarification Rob!
Excellent, I couldn't agree more with you King Rob ;) (I have a major soft spot for academia, so I tend to be partially biased when it comes to matters regarding education. And if you're going to be King of the world, I better get on your good side lol).
I think children as young as 5-7 should have the opportunity to interact with reptiles.
