Hope you dont think i am being harsh but the way your post reads is that you dont know..... Hope i am wrong and apologies if i am

if you are a new snake owner a burm may or may not be the best choice. for a couple reasons. they grow to be a pretty big snake and they grow fast and usually require a custom cage. dont get me wrong a burm is a awesome snake and anyone can start with one if they have done the right research and are prepared to end up feeding rabbit sized meals and can handle the requirements of a snake and also its going to end up being a 2-3 person snake in the long run. but i wish you the best of luck. Good luck!!

Welcome! Just so you know, we are all trying to help, so don't take anything the wrong way. I suggest you read this thread about giants (i.e., reticulated pythons, burmese pythons, rock pythons, scrubs, anacondas, etc.)

Hello and welcome. To answer your question for now something 3x2x1 will do. Full grown depending on it size your looking at 8x4x4 at least. Rule of thumb is you want a cage at least haft the snakes length. So if your snake gets to only be 12 feet you'll want at least a 6 foot long cage. With a adult Burmese the bigger the cage the better. The more room you give it to move around the more exercise they can get which will help keep them from getting overly fat.

Some people like to power feed them to get them big faster. In my experience Burmese python that are power feed usually become aggressive and over weight. Then you have a fat cranky snake that you'll be to scared of to handle. Any question you have just ask. I use to own six Burmese python myself.:)

hello and welcome

a 6ftx3ftx3ft would be the smallest you will get away with and thats only if your burm max's out at 12ft

most get bigger so your most likely looking at an 8ft long tank minimum

cheers shaun

Hello and welcome to the forum. I absolutely LOVE burm's and im very jealous lol. I own scrub pythons and while they dont get as heavy or as long on a regular basis, they can get BIG. I have been building a custom cage for a while now and was in the process of fitting the background before flying out for work. The tank i have made for this species is 2m x 1.4m x 1.6m. This is a large cage but i think you truely have to give the giants a chance to stretch out for them to be happy and content in captivity.
If i was to build a tank for a burm i would look at something like 3m L x 2m W x 2m H. Many think burms wont climb but i have seen some enclosures around this size and boy do they love the room. Just some food for thought

i would say get a big cage right away, dont make a small one because your just going to make another one in 6 months. 8x3x3 is a good size and DONT overfeed not saying you are i just see too many people what a BIG snake so they try to feed it too much and not think how they are just killing the burm or retic. good luck and if you have anymore ?'s please ask.

Hi Jenn, thanks for the advice... regarding feeding (or overfeeding), i wanted to ask advice on the proper feeding... as i said, i am feeding the same sized rat in the pic every 7 days.... is this too often or too big of a meal?? thanks again!

The rat size looks find. At six month i always go from feeding every 7 days to every 10. Then at 9 month every other week. (14 days)

wow! how much does it cost to feed a snake of that size jenn? how much would it run you a month/year? and what kind of upkeep does that demand?! right now we have a tarantula (Magali) and a ball python (pandora), and once we are in our house we really want to set up something substantial we already have our eyes on a bearded dragon and a water dragon (not sure i am translating well) and i really want to get a few more snakes. i am getting used to the care of my animals first too, so that i really have a good idea of the care before i take to many on :-) when you have 2.0 python 3.4 red tails etc... does that mean you have multiples of each? how much time does it take you daily/ weekly to care for so many? i am asuming each has its own enclosure?

and while i asked jen, please all feel free to respond! love to learn! thanks!

the 3.4.0 etc = the first number is the number of known males, the second the number of known females and the last number is the number of unknown or unsexed animals.

wow! how much does it cost to feed a snake of that size jenn? how much would it run you a month/year?for the burm right now i feed her XXL rats i get for free because i breed my rats and when she eats bunnies its like $4 for one, i feed her 2 times a month in the summer and 1 time a month in winter because it colder.

and what kind of upkeep does that demand?! upkeep like cleaning and taking her out? not much right now but today she did poop and it was the size of my black laps O-O and i take her out about 2 times a week or maybe more when my husband is home from work.

when you have 2.0 python 3.4 red tails etc... does that mean you have multiples of each? yeah that means the number of snake i have male, female, unknown right now i have 15 snakes and 2 more when it gets warm.

how much time does it take you daily/ weekly to care for so many? i am asuming each has its own enclosure?everyday i check there cages and tubs for poop if they need water, and when i take them out if there cage really needs cleaning ill do that but most of the time i just clean there cage once a month deep clean and new aspen. today was my cleaning day and i think it took me almost 2 hours to clean but i had to run after my 4 year old too lol.

WOW you must really know what your doing and doing it by rote if cleaning out 15 tanks/tubs takes you 2hrs sheesh!!! when you say taking them out....you mean out of their enclosure and in the house right?

Not neccessarily you Jenn...(you sound fairly experienced) but one thing Frost should know being in this hobby, as there is people with 40 snakes who dont know what there doing!!!:):) after doing this for some time you learn to determine which is which!!! lol as I'm sure many will agree:):)
