Recently I'd heard of cricket shortages, but being a keeper only of rodent-eating reptiles I had no knowledge of the cause or any idea of the impact of the cricket crisis. Perhaps this is old news to some of you, but I found this article quite informative...

Virus kills millions of crickets raised to feed pet reptiles, ruining some operations (http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/wire/sns-ap-us-food-and-farm-cricket-crisis,0,6189305.story)

There is also a locust shortage in the UK, one of the major breeders was hospitalised and the staff he left to run the operation messed up and wiped out pretty much the whole stock. One of the reasons i am getting a colony of dubia, i am in control of the food supply then.

I wonder if that is happening here in the US. My bearded gets crickets about once a week and I have never noticed a shortage when I go to our supplier to get them. Interesting though.
