Saw this in a week-in-review article:

A snake crosses the Capricorn Highway which is under floodwaters six kilometres south of Rockhampton Jan. 3, 2011. Military aircraft flew supplies to an Australian town slowly disappearing beneath floodwaters on Monday, as record flooding in the country's northeast continues to cut coal exports and devastate wheat production.

I would assume that is some sort of generic water snake and not a cottonmouth? I guess he had a good time crossing the highway during the flood.

It's in Autralia. Cottonmouths are a North American species.

Lol. I know the feeling, Nenna. A good friend of mine passed away yesterday, so I'm a good bit out of it myself today.

Thanks everyone..don't want to derail this thread though.

Did anyone find out what kind of snake that is in the picture? It almost looks like a brown snake, but I don't know if they get that large?

Its a pretty bad photo to get an ID from, but judging by the orange spots on its belly i would say its a eastern brown snake. Also sorry for your loss Kim.
