Profile: Alexandrite

This week I’ll profile another of the Brazilian Rainbows I am breeding this year, Alexandrite. Alexandrite is an October 2007 female. As of month end December, she weighed in at a healthy 2135 grams (slightly less than Topaz, because Alex is fussy about eating in shed…whereas Topaz will eat whenever).

Note that the week she shed was overcast outside, so none of those shots (which are the ones that really make these snakes glow!) turned out to be stunning.

I will post some pictures of her intended mate later this week or early next.

@ Ch^4: She's currently being pursued by her suitor, Hills, though I'm pretty sure he hasn't "sealed the deal" yet. ;-)

She's a stunner for sure, and the purple background really does justice to her patterning.

Thanks Greg! It tells me I need to adjust my color balance, though: the background is actually bluish, but one of those surfaces that changes exact tint depending on the way you rub/view the fabric. Same one as I use for most of my shots, this one it just came out odd (at least in the bottom shot). Again, thanks for the kind words!

Group picture? Hmm, tough request, especially for adults: it's hard enough to get *one* to sit still! Maybe some juvies or babies, let me puzzle that one.....interesting idea!

In a big box or bath tub would be about the only way to keep them from taking off every which direction. That and have some one help you last thing you want is one getting away.

Actually, even the juveniles are adept at getting out of the tub. I used to place my snakes in there while I cleaned, and they soon learned that all they had to do was grab onto the drain lever and use that as a tail-hold. From there to the facet then over the side, freedom! ;-)
