Personally my first snake that I ever had was a corn snake and I think they are a good beginner snake overall since they do not require as much of the specialized care that some of the tropical snakes need. Not to mention they do not get overly big either.

if its something larger than a corn snake your looking for...

carpet pythons are easy to keep and a hardy species

they can grow anything from 4ft to 10 ft depending on what type you decide on

their girth is roughly that of a coke can

they come in a variety of colours and patterns

imo very nice looking snakes

Hey there welcome aboard...some boas can get quite large...but balls lol are a ideal beginner snake docile and pretty easy to care for!!!As others on here will tell you, you wont stop at one trust me!!!

corns are perfect too If you like boas sand boas are beautiful and quite docile and are easy to care for too, there a lil different than most snakes as they are a desert species, but not a bad one to start with imho!!!!

balls are kinda a tricky one to get started with. corns are solid tho. they dont need much humidity and are sturdy creatures. and boas well you have to make sure at the end of the day you can take care of a 6-10ft snake but dont let that deter you snakes are great pets

^^ Agreed. Ball pythons can be finicky eaters and do require relatively high humidity (compared to a corn snake). They are, however, great snakes--IMHO--to keep if you take care of them properly.

Sand boas and rosy boas might be considered....relatively small, docile, and no special humidity requirements. My second snake was a rosy boa and I loved him/her (that was over a decade ago and I didn't care about its sex!).

My first snake was a ball python lol but corns are top of the list sand boas are very simple I have owned a few and they will shed no probs and be healthy in a dry enviroment!!
