Question for any of you carpet gurus out there. How big on average do Jungle Jags get? Would they be about the same as a regular Jungle or would they be smaller?

That is a good question. I'm sure that Shaun or Kim or one of the other Morelia gurus will be on later. I think it depends on their blood; I'm assuming if the snake has more coastal in it, it's going to be larger, but that is all it is, an assumption.

I'm not a carpet "guru" but I don't know how a snake that is 50% coastal and 50% jungle would be smaller than a jungle. I would prepare for it to be the same size as a jungle, if not bigger.

Plan on a 8 to 10 foot snake. They tend to take after the coastal side. All the adult Jags i ever seen are at the smallest around 7 feet.

You say all the adult "jags" you have seen have been on the larger side. Are those straight Jags or 50/50 crosses with jungle carpets?

Good point! Now that i think about it they were mostly jungle x jags, but they were between 7 to about 8 1/2 feet and not as thick as the straight Jags.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but I was under the impression that coastals are the largest carpet subspecies, so wouldn't a jungle/jag be expected to be the same size or smaller than a "straight" (pure coastal) jag? Maybe I'm just reading the thread wrong, but it sounds like marvelfreak is saying he expected them to be larger because they were part jungle? The research I've done suggests jungles average around 5-6 feet, while coastals can be 8-9 and Irian Jayas usually 4 1/2-5. Although with better knowledge of optimal care and medicine to allow our snakes to live longer, it would make sense that all species of snake attain a larger average captive size than a few decades ago.

I personally don't know Kim but you do make a good point.

I was surprised by Chuck's comment. I would have thought it would be in the middle somewhere but I suppose that would be around the 7 - 8 foot mark.

i have a pure coastal adult male jaguar who is not much more than 4 and a half feet

my mates is a 10 feet monster

anything from 4ft to 10ft depending on the individual snake

3 of my irian and jungle jags are around the 5 to 6ft mark

1 coastal jag just short of 5ft

coastal genes don't seem to mean coastal size in most cases ive seen in person

i to would have thought it would have made a difference as in them getting huge but my lot are quite small

they all eat like theres no tommorrow so imo its a genetic not eating thing ????

the average from what ive seen is 5ft to 8 ft

pure irians and pure jungles have been the smallest carpets ive come across

ive seen a good few adult jungles at 4 to 5ft

the more diamond influence in a carpet the longer, slender and more athletically muscular they seem to become

my black and white high diamond inflenced diamond jungle being a perfect example of my theory

she's heading for 8ft but very slender ansd muscular compaired to the rest of mine apart from my pure diamond who is like the olympic athelete of my collection

she's tear drop shaped and solid.ive noticed she can extend her self much more than the rest of mine, her stregnths pretty incredible for her age

very slow growing though she's 28 months old and i have 09 irians that are larger girth wise

i have a 18 moth old jungle female that dwarfs her girth wise

the diamonds very long though around the 4ft mark

they can hit the 9,10 feet mark

that said i know of a prollific breeding male diamond thats only 4ft

just got to love the diversaty of carpet pythons

cheers shaun

I meant the straight coastal jags get bigger and thicker.(8 feet or more) The jungle Jag were between 7 to 8 1/2 feet. I should point out all the jag i seen were in pictures of 6 different pairs of parents of Jags i been checking out. Trying to decided on which Jag i want to buy. My bases was on the sizes i was told these parents were, but it doesn't mean they didn't stretched the true on their size.
So OP don't go by anything i said. I thought i was helping, but apparently i was miss inform. I would go with by what Shaunyboy said has he knows a ton more about Jag than i do and he own quite a few. Sorry for wasting everybody time and giving misinformed info.
