i am totally boycotting the name ball python in favor of royal python it sounds better and is its original name who is with me :)

Belovedboas, you need to go to a reptile expo- the Ball python jokes fly like crazy. They got the common name "ball python" because of their habit of rolling into a ball when frightened. Royal python does make them sound more proper though. lol.

I think people outside the hobby recognise royal python rather than ball python, in my experience anyway.

My balls have never balled up.

I have one big ball and 3 little balls.

I like to let my balls crawl around the house.

When my balls get cold, they often curl up in a nice warm spot.

My balls love the humid box.

I have no problem using Ball or Royal. At least stateside, newbs only know of BPs as Ball Pythons....you mention Royal Python and most are like "huh?" :crazy2:

ball python- nickname because of its defensive posture which is cool because it helps people accept such a "frightening" animal.

on the subject, i kind like ball pythons better, but i am a crass person so i find ball jokes funnier than most

My ball pythons are by far my favorite snakes to handle because they have never struck me, striking me would be too much like work. I had never heard the term "royal python" until I got my first snake and started coming to the forums. The whole cleopatra myth is pretty spurious. But "ball" is really no better. I don't know why they couldn't have been named after their location, or the first scientist to describe them, or their pattern like almost every other python/boa.
