Tegus would likely make a better choice.

Many are captive bred, where as 99% os Savs are wild caught/hatched/ "farmed"

Tegus (argentines, reds and blues) can be very personable lizards.

While they wont be very "chill" while young and small, they bigger they get the more confident they will be that they wont be harmed.

Here's an old video from when I used to keep tegus lol

^^ That guy is beautiful! And he acts like my BP, who acts like a cat when you rub his back....he arches it!

Someday I'll own a big lizard, someday...

Savs Rule!! i picked savs because i like their personality better, they are worse as far as temperment, they are more like cats that way, if they want to be nice they are great, were as tegus from what i have seen a read are pretty much puppy dog tame and attnasion seakers who love to get pet, heres a good video. if you like the way both look the same, and your looking for a more freindly lizard i sugest the tegu, but for me i love the savs :) YouTube - Do Tegus Seek Attention? - SiscoReptiles.com - tegu-attention (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBICGcshTV0)

I have an argentine black and white tegu. He's still growing up.

They're absolute terrors until they reach adulthood. They go through a period of "terrible twos" where they go through adolescence and tend to get very aggressive and destructive. Generally they grow out of it and you end up with 20 years of a dog tame lizard after though. If you can stick out a tegu for the first 3 years, you'll have a wonderful pet.

that video is somthing else eh, you would never see a sav doing that with food around, not in a million years, even if you fed the fat pigs first, im sure they would lay under a heat lamp and sleep a while before they ever left a plate full to get some quality time with their master LOL

I can only speak for one, Chomper choses food over everything.

when we take him out to roam, he is a vacuum cleaner, every living thing that crosses his path gets ate.

That boy found a beetle colony of some sort last summer, once he started in eating, he was a vicious monster when I tried to get him to move along. He didn't care about anything else, as long as there were bugs to eat, he wasn't moving.

My fiance had a tegu, and it was just vicious..I am pretty sure it was a juvenile, but it also appeared to be narcoleptic. It would fall asleep with food in its mouth, fall asleep in the bathtub, etc. It never stayed awake long enough to figure out that we weren't going to hurt it, so it was always scared and defensive. Man, could that thing bite!
I have a savannah monitor, and he's a sweetie. He's a young adult, about 2.5 feet long. I personally prefer savs- they seem to have a lot more personality to me. But I think every lizard is an individual.

What time of the year was it? Mine is like that, I think it's because he's trying to brumate.

my sav will get all pissy then ill show him food, and hes all calm and as soon as he gets it in his mouth he will do a little tail whip and walk off giving me the stink eye, then he chomps it back and comes back like nothing happened, this happens ever peice of food he gets LOL i cant wait till hes a little bigger and less scared, but for now its rather funny :)

I've kept both and Savannah's are more laid back IME. Tegu's are really great but they are high energy and need more attention than the Sav's. My Sav used to sit in my wife's lap for hours, you'd never catch my Tegu doing that.

I don't think you can go wrong with either, it's just what kind of animal you prefer.
