i was thinking instead of getting a baby snake soon, i might wait a while and get a mate for my dum and make little dums to have and sell. i have some questions, how do you introduce the male and the female. do they live together or should i have 2 seperate vivs? any other random info will be appreciated. i'll probably end up waiting a year or two just because i'm not positive on my guy's age (even though he is almost fully grown)

Not done it myself but from reading - they live separately, the male goes into the females viv when ready to try.

Most breeders keep the snakes apart and put them together just long enough for the babies to get made.

another question, do you think i should let the pair meet and know each other before the cool down and actual mating time? or would i just put the male in when everything is ready without them ever having met?

Just keep them strangers, pop in some Barry White, and get the candles and incense going...they'll feel so dangerous.

In all seriousness though, there is no reason to let a pair "get to know each other" before breeding. There is debate as to how long snakes' memory is, but general consensus is that they do not remember individuals after they have left the vicinity, at least not for more than a few minutes. They are pretty primitive creatures after all.
In fact, some breeders will separate a pair after they've been breeding for a month or so, wait a day and stick them back together. To the snakes, it's like they've never met and it's all new and exciting again.

I'd recommend finding a good book or three on breeding boas, and read them front to back multiple times prior to starting this endeavor. I'm sure one of the seasoned breeders on here would be more than willing to recommend good books.

I've kept snakes for 15+ years, but I still don't plan on breeding for a good 3-5 years, with most of that time being spent educating myself and preparing for what is to come. IMHO, owning a snake is one thing, successfully and properly breeding snakes is another.

Good luck with the Dums project! I might be ready for a baby Dum by then ;)

yea after a few years i'll have a better overall set up and hopefully some cash to start a new project. and i'll definetly find books and much information before i even buy a female.
