Hi everyone. I have been having some problems with my corn snake and I was hoping somebody could shed some light on the situation. About 2 months ago, I bought a baby corn snake. It appeared to be healthy, but it wouldn't eat, and after a week or two, I started to notice some green/black discoloration, almost like a bruise, on the under belly, and on her side. Now, I don't know if the discoloration and the not eating are related, but about a week after I noticed the discoloration, the snake died. Now, about a week ago, I purchased another baby corn snake from the same breeder, and I'm having the exact same problem. I'm not concerned with the lack of eating so much as I am curious as to what is causing the discoloration. It appears to be internal, not like just a spot of color or something. Does anybody know what this could be?

Welcome....

What are the exact conditions of your snakes enclosure.

Can you post photos? pictures would be real helpful.

get it to a vet if this has happened before and caused death.

Photos and/or a more in-depth description would definitely be helpful if there's anything that people here can help with. But at this point, like dragunov stated, since similar symptoms occurred prior to your other Corn's passing, you should probably take this one to see a vet.

I do have some questions though: About how far along the body is the discolored area? How large is the discolored area? Is it swollen at all?

I have read that post-mortem their gallbladders often rupture and that can cause a greenish discoloration in the area. But, since the discoloration is occurring while your snakes are living I'm not sure this is relevant.

Also, I seem to recall reading about a similar situation on another forum. I'll try to find that information and send it to you.

As this is the second time i would be seeing a vet and asking the breeder to come along and/or pay for the treatment. Hope it worksout for you.

id call the breeder and ask how many of this clutch have shown signs of this

if he's a decent breeder he should be honest with you

if its a problem clutch he should also replace your ill hatchling with a healthy hatchling or full refund of your cash

i hope you get things sorted out

cheers shaun
