hello from the Chilcotin BC

Just a quick intro....I recently moved from Van Isle and have owned, bred and rescued all forms of snakes for over 25 years but most of my experience is with the larger constrictors and caimans.....although I like the look of some "designer" snakes it was just never my thing, I believe there is enough unwanted critters out there. No offence to anyone out there : ) I spent the last 11 years lecturing at VIU (Vancouver Island University) for their 1st year Zoology reptile classes where the students were able to interact with many different species as well as my 16 foot Burmese named Ty....over the years most of my rescues were burms unfortunately. We recently moved to the Chilcotin at a very high price....my caiman which I had for over 12 years since she was a tiny baby did not survive the first week from the stress of the move, but on a happy note...everyone else has settled in. I have already been invited by local schools to lecture so we still get to educate and hopefully pass a love for snakes on to future generations. Our goal up here is to start a frozen rat/rabbit business (do to the fact we had such a hard time finding larger food)...hence the name "ah ratz"....anyway I would like to thank the organizers and moderators of this forum for doing an amazing job....its a very informative site. not wanting a fight either but imo there is a place for designer morph's etc.

over here they have revived and expanded the herp industry in the uk and won over a lot more of the general public

the more people who own snakes the more non snake keepers have access to them (family friends etc)

i find this has changed ordinary folks views for the better

its only morelia i keep and there is a very healthy demand for high quality examples of pure and designer carpets


i can also see what your saying as

the ball python market and corn snake market on the other hand imo is flooded with unwanted over produced morphs and bad examples of these snakes

the above is just my humble opinion of the uk market

Welcome to the forum!:) I agree with you on the designer morphs but I think that Morphs definitely have their place in the industry. I dont have any desire to own them, I prefer their natural colors.:)

I do think they have introduced alot of new interest to the hobby and I am happy to hear about your success with carpets Shaun...I have had many and they are beautiful, .... but my opinion comes from a rescue sense only....the more bred in captivity the more that end up on rescuers door steps when the "new" hobbiests get bored or bit. They are great for the serious herper looking to expand his or her collection. It would be awsome if an entire litter found great herp friendly homes but unfortuneately the non sold ones often end up at pet stores because the breeders cannot keep all of them...hence why I quit breeding, it became an "industry" But as a herp person there are some morphs I would love to have from a collection stand point.

welcome to the forum! :) IMO i think designer morphs are a great thing, i see what your saying about people abandoning their snakes because they no longer want or can no longer keep them, but that happens with anything in life, any pets, so the idea of designer morphs opening the door to stop the negitive vibe of snakes as a whole is great. but im not saying the idea of throwing the snakes away or over flooding the morket is ggood, just the mind changing and beautifull new colors is good :)
