Hello
I have a prarie rattler and i was wondering if he had to hibernate? my snake is not eating and is trying to dig in all of the corners of his cage. he is a wild caught rattler. if he is trying to hibernate what should i do?

It's not a species that I keep.

However what I would do is look up what the brumation requirements are and copy them.

some snakes will go into a "winter mode" and stop eating.

however unless you are breeding them, hibernation is not required.

We do have a couple snake keepers who work with rattlesnakes, so let's see what pops up.

if you want to hibernate him you can cool the room down for 2 to 3 month (after not feeding for 3 weeks to clear his gut). ofter that time warm the room back up and offer food. you don't have to hibernate if you don't want. try and offer food every other week until he eats if you don't want to hibernate him.
i should say i do not work with rattle snakes but this is the basics for all brumating snakes
