From the look of the first pic I would guess a cobra of some type.

Nice pics everyone. Owning a hot in my house would be a huge no-no. Fascinating snakes though.

Goodness I would be to afraid of owning a "hot" but amazing reptiles all the same. Beautiful stuff all of you have. Hope everyone can stay "tag free" while you own your hots.

My god percey, those are breathtaking animals! Would you mind posting what they all are? (no scientific names please :) )
And a question for all hot owners, have you ever had any real close calls?

I owned a couple hot's for about a week at one point :)

Both Western Diamonds

I go on an annual rattlesnake "hunt" (catch and release), all caught by hand. Only ever had one close call, had a baby by the head, almost got the twist on me.

Awesome Cobra Macadder!!!

Thanks Max, those are some very sweet looking rattlers too!! Not a problem mate here they are in order of appearance.

1- Death Adder ( Barkley's Tableland locale )
2- Collett's snake
3- Mulga/King Brown ( Alice Springs locale )
4- Mulga/King Brown ( St George locale )
5- Australian Copperhead

I have only had one close call in my life of owning venomous reptiles. That was a little over a month ago and i got a dry bite that went through my gloves with a juvie Mulga/King Brown. There was venom on my hand as well as a puncture mark, but lucky for me no envenomation.

Max713 those look like northern pacifics...

A close call with a King Brown is about as close as they come, if I remember correctly, they are the deadliest snake in the world aren't they?
I hope you bought a lottery ticket after that, you are a lucky man!

The Collett is amazing, but that little adder is my favorite, am I weird in saying it's such a cute little guy?
Your snakes have me so intrigued! Any chance you could post their enclosures?
For some time I've considered trying to keep one of the w.c. rattlers I catch every year, they sure are fun!

They were caught in Sisters OR, very center of Oregon, in the high desert.
Honestly I'm not entirely sure their exact species, my understanding is there is multiple species in the area, anywhere from Great Basin, Western, Western Diamond Back... etc.
After looking through pictures, I think it could be any one of them, all the species have a definite variation in patterns.

Haha the adder looks sweet and placid but is lightning fast when he is hungry or angry lol, he is now over a foot long with a big fat adder head haha. Nah the King Browns are not the deadliest ( the inland taipan still holds that spot ). King Browns are actually part of the black snake family ( pseudechis ) and not the brown snake family ( pseudonaja ). Their venom is still pretty strong to say the least but its the sheer amount that they can produce in a solitary bite which is the biggest concern.

Here is some pics of a few of their enclosures. All of these pics are fairly old but nothing has really changed.

I'm no hot specialist but i was 99% sure that the inland taipain was #2 under the sea krait?

Sorry i was talking land species not sea species as they are a whole other kettle of fish.

Some of them look amazing though :) we caught an AMAZING black and yellow one in costa rica, they are everywhere (rudder tail, small head, yellow and black all over)

They are stunning indeed, but from what i have read and heard they are extremely hard to get to thrive in captivity.

Might be an interesting project if one had all the time in the world and ALLOT of resources. Would definitely be a unique collection.

antivenom - Do not buy this
04-09-11, 10:57 PM
Those are some sweet snakes i would also like to see the names next to each snake, and for all my fellow hot owners, I found a cool place in Mexico to get antivenom for almost all hots so you can be prepared because to get bit sucks in two ways first the possible permanent damage and death, second it costs from 20,000-65,00 $ for treatment and antivenom/antivenom so go check it out. It is the only place that i know of that you can actually buy antivenom.

all links to this "pusher" have been deleted.. member banned. Do not listen to anything this man says.. he is spamming - promoting his own product, a product that could lead to your death..

Virtually no hospital on American soil will inject vials of anything that was not kept under their own strict control.

so if you show up at the ER with a bunch of vials, don't expect any reputable doctor to administer it.

Liar!!!

More like OWNS a business in Mexico selling anti venom...

NEVER EVER buy your own anti venom and inject yourself.

If this person was selling from within the USA, I would send drug enforcement there myself.

Well done and well said Wayne! I highly recommend that no one ever buys something this crucial to your life off a online supplier or most suppliers in general. Trusting someone you have never met or even know with your life is extremely risky, especially when you consider do you even know that they have any qualifications at all.
Go to your local hospitals and have a talk to them before purchasing any venomous animal about the supply of the antivenom needed for that species and if its easily attained for them. Also after the purchase of an animal you should tell them to put an alert next to your name with a list of the venomous species that you keep. This will help them with the treatment and aid with either stocking or being able to get the antivenom needed there a lot quicker.
To attempt to administer yourself is an incredibly stupid idea!!! The risks of over dosing/under dosing, anaphylactic shock and many many more are far too severe.

There are easy ways of comparing it to something to make it obvious, would you use a pacemaker your 12 year old nephew got from a friend to save you some money?
