wow that red belly black looks sweet!!
Wow! Great finds. I was reading that a small dose Tiger snake antivenin can be used to treat Red Belly bites and it would have a smaller chance of causing negative side effects.
I would love to go to Australia.
Thanks for sharing
Happy herping!

Tiger anti venom can be used on most black snake species and a few others. Great looking rbb i found 3 the other day just didnt have the camera with me. I will be going out again soon around tarra bulga national park. Where do you go herping if ya dont mind me asking red ink or were these just found near roads.

Don't go out herping much mate, only if I'm on holidays really. I would have a look around the area I happen to be staying at. These two were at the Grampians Natinal park mate, near the Zumpstein on the North end bordering the Wartook valley. I found a couple of other little critters around the area including a four foot lacey up a tree 300m away from the house we were staying at. A few yellow bellied water skinks, a stumpy, an Eastern blue tongue and a pair of robust lined skinks where the other finds.

Yeah there is some good herps up that way. I have seen a few copperheads, rbb's, browns, tigers and lacey's down here lately and will be heading out again this arvo to have another look.

I saw on Snake Wranglers the other day about a mutant Tiger snake. It is only located in one island in Southern Australia. Thousands of years ago when the sea level rose these Tiger snakes were restricted to this island. On the island these Tiger snakes evolved and became completely black. They also evolved venom that is supposedly 20% more potent than that of a regular mainland Tiger snake. I can't remember what the island was called but Im pretty certain it is in Southern Australia.

You will be talking about Kangaroo Island or chappel island tiger snake. They are great species and look stunning. Im not too sure on their toxicity but i cant imagine them being all that different to the mailand species. They do get slighly bigger and a fair bit more of a girth on them though.
