Wow can that girl strike!
As I posted before dakota ate her first f/t and being her first I did not know exactly how hard she could hit. Wow I went out and got a longer set of tongs the pair I had were originally made to
pierce the new ones are a few more inches. I have never been bitten before and would like to keep it that way.
:Wow:

That one day when your hand is 2 degrees warmer than the food..;)

I learned to tell when Kane is eying my hand rather than his rat, I pull my hand back out real quick.

lol , its going to happen eventually , i have no idea how many times that i have ben bitten , all i deal with is bp's and as far as they go it feels like someone thumping you with a finger , its more startling than anything , you do bleed a little though

You'll bleed a lot more than an average wound, because snake have an anticoagulant in their saliva. Which is a good thing because any bacteria will be flushed out......

this

my carpets have a bad habit of by passing the tongs and going straight for the nice warm hand holding them

i make sure i heat all my prey items up with a hair dryer before i grab them with the tongs

as wayne said the snake tends to hit the hand if its warmer than the prey item

cheers shaun

Nanna, I hate to be another bearer of bad news, but if you keep snakes, you'll almost definitely get bitten at some point. It really isn't nearly as bad as you'd think. It stings at first, but only for a few seconds. After that it doesn't really hurt at all, unless it got you in a very sensitive spot, like face or webbing between the fingers or crotch or something (I've gotten it in the face, fingertips, arm, shoulder, hand, webbing between fingers, elbow, thigh) and the only two that really hurt were my 8.5 foot SD retic hitting my forearm (more force than bite pain) and my 6 foot boa hitting my face (OUCH!). Best thing you can do is not yank your arm/whatever body part got bit back, because then it tears the teeth through your skin and makes it hurt more. Most bites are a nip/let go immediately anyway, so it's usually over before you register what happened.

I agree willow, tho i did have a young corn try to swallow ome of my fingers a couple of months back. He bit and let go, i moved my hand and he bit again and started the feeding/swallowing process on my index finger! I started off laughing at him but when i realised my finger was going into his throat passage the panic started to set in a little!!

The bite and release aren't bad. It when they don't want to let go that hurts like hell. Had a 8 foot Burmese bite and wrap took 15 minutes to get it off. My buddy Shawn Mexico Black king took us 45 minutes to get it to release his finger. Had to blow cigarette smoke in it face to get it to let go.

I ended up running my finger and the snakes head under the cold tap for about ten minutes before he gave in and let go, real weird pinging sensation as he unhooked each tooth from my skin...........

Cold water how we got the Burmese to let go. With the king snake we almost drown it and it still won't let go. We try everything, then i remember read were someone got a retic to release by blow smoke in it face. So then we had to get his neighbor because neither one of us smoke. Work instantly.
