I am sorry, but that is certainly not a ribbon snake or any other Thamnophis species.

The complete lack of a dorsal stripe and the orientation of the scales looks more like an Indonesian species of keelback snake.

Quick search shows the exact same snake..The guy who made the page didn't mention what kind of snake it was but he says it's rear-fanged and slightly venomous.

****!! slightly venomous, i think i will change my mind and sell it :)

i sent an e-mail to a website asking them if they know anything about it.

you can check the site

Herpetology Laboratory at Davidson College, Davidson, North Carolina - Michael E. Dorcas (http://www.bio.davidson.edu/people/midorcas/dorcas_home.htm)

All of the keelback species of your region are mildly venomous, but completely harmless to humans.

They have "rear fangs" (located at the back of the mouth) and it's nearly impossible to get envenomed. (Poisoned)

The venom they do produce is intended to immobilize frogs, so even if you shoved your finger in the snakes mouth, it would not hurt you anymore than a wasp sting would.

Your snake will make a fine pet, and is likely used to food items that you can find locally.

The body structure is all wrong for a ribbon snake. And the scale orientation is all wrong.

Here is a pic of my pet ribbon snake.

Most rear fanged snakes are hard to be envenomated by and you would have to let them sit there and chew or stick your finger deep in its mouth. Most species will only give you localised swelling and a itching sensation for a while if you are unlucky enough. There is some rear fanged species that will knock you over permanantly though.

Definitely not a ribbon snake. No dorsal stripe.

Are the scales keeled? (ridged in the center)
What does its underbelly look like? (color, pattern, etc)

Or if all else fails, have your friend go to the person he got it from and ask them.
