View Full Version : Carpalls discussion
Hello all, I wasn't sure where to put this thread, so I threw it in here.
I just wanted to see what people thought about Carpalls (JCP x BP or any other combo of carpet x BP)?
I saw a picture the other day and was curious what the experts here had to say......this is slightly stemming from the posts on Carpondros.
I personally think they are nice looking snakes (BPs are very cute and come on, anything with carpet in the name is a gorgeous snake).
Thanks!

alot of people dont like mixing snakes that would never meet in the wild, but i think more people these days are into it. I for one am a fan on cross breeding, I was reading on burm balls and i hear they dont seem to live that long if i remember correctly. i dont know about carpet balls, i have seen womaballs, nothing much to look at IMHO. im going to look into it, i find this stuff interesting :)

I guess, I can't say that I would want to own one, but I am not against the concept. Just because they have not been observed in nature does not mean it could not happen in nature. I mean, every species that we know today came about from cross breeding. Thats evolution. As long as these cross breeds do not make it into the wild, I don't see a problem.

also, as long as its clearly stated what it is when it is sold to someone, and not being sold as pure.
Excellent feedback everyone, thanks for the info!
I do not plan on purchasing one, but was always fascinated by hybrids and thought I'd seek comments on the topic from the many herp-gurus on this forum!

That my friend is exactly why a lot of people dont like the hybrid idea. As you will produce normal looking offspring and the hobby is filled with untrustworthy people. In 30 years pure breeds in private collections COULD be a thing of the past if this situation is not handled properly by everyone doing it which will never happen.
I dont mind too much as eventually this will push the prices of pure snakes higher and higher, but you will have to know the right people to ever truely get what you pay for.

I think Carpalls and Bateaters are beautiful! My personal favorite is the blue Carpondro, however. I personally don't think there's really anything wrong with the hybrids, as long as they are sold and identified as such. They are generally so different from their pure parents that it would be hard to mix them up, but several generations distilled out might be tough.

theres a guy in the states crossed a carpet with a boelens.i look forward to seeing how it looks as an adult
as far as i know no one has managed to breed pure boelens outside indonesia
we can now get boelens for £2000 each over here
they live at very high altitudes and this seems to be the problem re breeding problems
ive also heard of but never seen a ball python crossed with a burmese python
burmballs
those bateaters are very cool looking snakes
so are jagpondro's especially albino's

i can see your point mate
i find doing it in places like the uk where theres NO chance of it interfearing with wild species is ok
i totally understand people being against it in countrys where they can survive if they escape
also chipping them over here would be a must to avoid mix ups

There is deffinetely very normal looking snakes of both parents in clutch, to the untrained eye its nearly impossible to tell. It will be the new comers to the hobby that will suffer from this the most and thats the absolute worst thing that can happen!
Im partial to those bateaters very beautiful indeed!
I would be a advocate for shipping new species over your way Shaun to give you guy's more pure specimens and to help with getting new blood in ongoing projects. You would have ship some species back to me though lol Damn the government!!

i was waiting to get one before they changed the laws here, the guy i got my retic from was trying to breed a super dwarf retic to a female burm, did it a couple time already, but twice the eggs all came out as slugs, now large snakes over 9 feet are banned here so hes no longer pairing them, they are beautifull tho.

Cheers mate, i heard it gets pretty wild over there but thats part of the history! Im not much of a tourist attraction person as i prefer doing all the back street kind of things and experiencng the different cultures over seeing object i have seen in pictures or on TV. Dont get me wrong there is some seriously nice looking landmarks over your way that i want to see.

the only good thing there is you can drive from one end of scotland to the other in 4 hours
you can do one end of the uk (the bottom of england) to the top part of the uk (the top of scotland) in roughly 10 to 12 hours
im wondering how long it would take to drive from the furthest south part to the furthest north part of australia mate ?
thats if it can be done ?

Wow thats not too bad at all. To drive from Melbourne to brisbane takes 23 hours non stop, so you would be looking at 36 hours maybe more without stopping lol thats on the mainland. You can take your car by boat to Tasmania for around $180. It would be hard to everything you want to do in a holiday though and you know when you get home you will be shatterd about missing something.
