Destructive SD?

Just wondering if anyone else has a retic or SD retic that destroys their enclosure on a regular basis?

Almost daily my SD will pull thensphagnum moss out of his humid hide, push his substrate all over the place so that there are bare patches on the floor and move his hides around the viv.

Is this "normal"??

I can't help with the retic or SD retic, but my adult BP does this ALL the time; he even manages to pry the lid off of his humid hide somehow.

I am always fixing the bare spots. Maybe some snakes just like to "party" when the lights go out...

My BP pushes his stuff all over the place too.

I often think about giving him more room to motivate in at night, because he starts getting active when the lights get turned off.

My Borneo cage looks different every morning. You can always tell where she been laying because there are three bare spots in her cage where she lays. If i put reptile bark back over it she move it. So now i just leave the bare spots. I am just glad she comes out of her hide. She spent 4 month in her hide unless i took her out. Started doing it after i moved her to her big cage. Then i switch from news paper to reptile bark and she not been in her hide since. But every night she push her hides all over the cage.
My diamond x Jungle has one hide she likes better than the other and will move it to where she wants it. My wife actually caught her wrapping around it while hanging from her perch and sliding across the cage.

When I clean the cage of my ball, I will fluff up the aspen and everything, as soon as I do it she gets out of her hide, and crawls over it and flatten it right back down, she don't even wait she always does it... its lime her bed? lol.

none of my snake but chomper my sav pushes EVERYTHING (dirt moss sand all the plants ) in his water so i change twice a day and the look he gives me while im doing it is pricless he come right up to e and just lays down then when im done he goes right back to bask but i am yet to catch him in the act

my albino retic moves her water from one side to the other every night, i never put anything in her cage other than aspen and her water.

He has a couple of chunky bits of wood in there but those wont move, everything else does tho! I might just leave it be rather than tidying it from now on!

My SD retic is very active with the remodeling, as are the two full-sized retics I'm caring for. Baby, my girl, is on cypress mulch and she tends to tip her water over if it gets below half full and push the bedding all around. She's too large for any of the commercial hides I've found, so she has a shelf in her melamine cage she can curl under. I would recommend a slope sided water bowl or one that fits in the corner, so that the snake will be less likely to push it around. Also, large heavy hides or shelves work well. A bit of exploration and remodeling is perfectly normal; remember that retics are generally considered to be some of the most intelligent and curious non-venomous snakes, so they enjoy stimulation.

DOnt think he can tip the water bowl (yet) as it is a pretty huge stoneware dog bowl - for the hides as i assumed he would outgrow commercial snake hides i have used plastic rabbit "hides" - they tend to come in two bits that clip together so one rabbit hide equals two snake hides!

dont know about retic's mate but...

carpets can destroy their viv in a matter of minutes

i have a jag i cant leave a water bowl in during the night

he loves tipping it over,then smashing the metal dog bowl all over the place (like he's playing football,soccer in the states)

he also dont have any fake plants as he wrecked them in a matter of days

he's even got a habit of trailing himself through his poo if im not quick enough getting it out

he than smears it all over the place

we call him " the tink " (tramp in the states)

must admit though he has us cracking up with laughter on a good few occasions

i swear this guy has a sense of humor :yes:
