im pretty sure your heat source wont have tanned him mate

a lot of snakes change colour or dull down with age where as others get brighter.

its down to the individuall snake imo

i only keep carpets but im sure someone more knowledgable on boas will let you know how common it is for them to change colour

could he be coming up to a shed as my carpets look like the crappiest snakes ever the month before they shed

my irian jag looks a muddy brown at the minute but 2 to 3 weeks time after he sheds he will be a nice bright yellow again

cheers shaun

what age is your boa ?

if they're going to carpets tend to go muddy looking from the age of 3 to 8 years of age

that said it can take a jaguar carpet 3 years to colour up nice and bright

im thinking it will have to be someone working with boa's that can tell you if this is a common trait in them

i would'nt worry about the wattage of your bulbs as most people i know use 100 or 150 watt bulbs in their tanks with no ill affect to the snake
