My buddy Shawn was at a pet store the other day and heard a customer ask if anyone knew where he could get his get his snake stuffed at. He had it for almost 13 years and it passed away. He wanted to get it stuffed so he could put it on the wall in his bedroom. "So his friend would always be with him." It was a 7 foot RTB. This got me and my wife were talking about when Electra my 10 year old jungle passes. I have actually thought about it, but don't know if i do it. I seen people do these with cat and dogs before and was would you get your favorite pet? So i want to hear what other think?

I have a couple of snakes that i could never bare to part with!!! I still have a one of my tigers that passed a while ago in the freezer and have been thinking of how to preserve him in a jar. I was very excited by these guy's and one truely stole my heart with his personality and i would absolutely love to keep him with me for the rest of my days aswell.

I would not get a pet stuffed, i would rather remember his good time and memories shared than his actual body im looking at stuffed up. I could see a stuffed head or somthing from a hunting trip, but not a pet, i think its their soul im falling in love with, and you cant stuff that :) but im not apposed to others doing it, its just not for me.

I think i agree with Freebody, tho i dont think anyone can judge until they are in the situation themselves.
I certainly dont think there is anything wrong with preserving it in some way but it isnt for me.

I guess I can see both sides of the discussion here. I voted Not Sure, because, really until it happens......I guess I'm not sure. I'd Probably be more likely to get a Large picture framed or something.

I have thought about it before even price having it done. But never did it. I think a rather get a tattoo as tribute.

I could never do it. I've lost a few dear snakes over the years, and I buried them and remember them by pictures. For me, seeing the dead, stuffed body would be depressing, because the spark that was the snake is gone, and it's only a shell left. I can't think less of anyone else for doing it though....just would not be for me.
hi there.. i read your post and find it interesting.. just to let you know that there is a shop in islington on essex road north london called.. get stuffed... i worked next door to there for years and know the guy there.. hes called robert.. he sells all types of stuffed animals and i know for a fact that people have payed to have pets stuffed.. hopefully it will be a long time before you have to consider this.. but just thought id let you know about the place. all the best..:)

dont know if i ever get my snakes stuffed, might put up a nice pic....my dad has 2 rattelsnakes that are stuffed scares the crap out of everyone that comes over to the house lol...
Hmm, interesting! I haven't actually considered what I would do when my snakes pass on, though stuffing them never came to mind. I had considered cremation for my furry friends so that I could keep their ashes with me. I have read of people getting their snake's skin mounted/framed, just to add another option for discussion.

When my first passed I named my new guy the name I had given her before I sexed her. Now he is a living tribute:D

I couldn't deal with the daily reminder I don't think. I have rabies tags from old cats or dogs or pictures in keepsake boxes that I can look at when I am feeling sentimental but a stuffed pet would be creepy and sad to me.
i suppose its a nice idea to have your pet stuffed.. but me personally would probably cry everytime i looked at it... it would be just like looking at my pet... dead. my dobermann died at 11 months old..:( i couldnt even bare the thought of his ashes sitting in the room.. so instead i had his name tattooed on my wrist as a little memory for him. certain things work for different people. ;)

Lets rather stuff granddad and put him in the corner:shocked:
When my first snake died about 15 years ago, I ended up digging a grave for him.
I likely could not live day in and day out looking at my beloved past pets if they were inanimate.
However, cremation may be an alternative.
On that note, one of my girlfriend's professors found this company that does the oddest of things with the ashes of your past pet (or family member).
They create an artificial diamond! Quite expensive (they have a price list with the cheapest being $2500, if I recall), which is understandable, as creating an artificial diamond requires EXTREME temperature and pressure!!!
Here's a link if anyone wants to check it out: LifeGem for Pets - Memorial Diamonds created from a lock of hair or cremated remains / ashes / cremation (http://www.lifegem.com/secondary/beloved_pets_main2006.aspx)
Interesting is all I have to say...
As I wouldn't have my nan stuffed when she goes as much as I love her bless her, I wouldn't get any beloved pet stuffed, too freaky. I'd rather them return to the earth and cherish their memory.

I May get yelled at for this, but id probably have her made into boots, i love boots, they are my non living passion, so for me its the ultimate tribute, i frown upon snakeskin boots as usually the snakes used in them are caught and slaughtered, however because of my love for fancy footwear and my love for my snakes i can think of no better way (for me) to remember them

Personally mate i think that is actually a good thing. Its not like you are killing an animal just to make the boots and the boots will last a long time and would be a good tribute to the snake.

My most beloved snake just passed away last night, and in this case, I'm having a full necropsy done so I don't have an option with the body. My good friend is a photographer, and about 6 months ago we had done an awesome photo shoot with the snkae. So she is making me up some nice full-size prints for me to frame and hang. That way I can remember my Baby at her best.

When a friends albino burm died, she buried it, but before she did, she skinned an exceptional patch of skin on it and had that made into a wallet, the wallet has a window cut into it, almost like a viewing window, and in that window she had a picture of the snake it was made from in its prime hanging from a tree wrapped around a rabbit, might sound odd but its a fantastic looking wallet.

I haven't agreed with a statement on a forum so completely in quite a while...
Very well said!

I think if you can appreciate the animals coloring and body shape and not get caught up in any anthropomorphic association you may have developed with the animal while keeping it stuffing it shouldn't be a bad thing though expensive.
Old post but what an interesting subject.Ive often wished Id had my rottie stuffed.I go back and forth thinking what kind of freak does somethiing like this. But at the same time I would so love to just have him still here.Even if its just his shell.
You never forget them either way.

My local pet shop owner gets peoples dead reptiles dropped off all the time to dispose of. I started practicing on them trading one prepared skin for 2 fresh practice "specimens" and now I get special requests from people who want to remember there pets forever. I did a job a month or two ago on an 8 foot red tail. Skinned and tanned it. Made an excellent wall piece. Now i'm getting into "stuffing" them for people who want an actual 3d version of it. I've got asked a suprisingly good ammount of times by people who want this done. So you wouldn't be the only one thinking this. It's all on what you're comfortable with.
FYI RTBs are very easy to do yourself and look stunning when done while any type of python (balls especially) are a freakin nightmare. I felt bad a guy had me prepare his pied ball python and when it was done it had lost all its color (almost became transparent) and stiff as a board, while taking about 10 times as long as the RTBs

I have to agree with Freebody. Although getting it stuffed will always make you remember him of the good times you had with your pal.
I wouldn't judge anyone else though I wouldn't do it either.

This was my plan when I had a lovely large corn die last year.
I've still got a nice chunk of his skin in the freezer as aside from skinning it, I have no idea what to do next.
I shall find out at some point though.

I'm sure there is some leather fanatic forum out there, give them dimensions and hope for some good ideas?
