during the shedding proccess the snakes eyes will cloud up go blue then they will clear up and the snake will appear normal.
his eye caps have not fallen off
a snakes eyes will clear up and look normal after they go blue
your snake will shed 5 to 8 days after the eyes clear up
the eye caps will be on the shed when this happens
always check the shed to make sure the eye caps are on it
also the tip of the tail of the shed should always be checked to make sure its complete
if shed is left on the tip of the tail then it can cause the blood to be restricted and cause the tip of the snakes to fall off
once youve seen your carpet shed you'll see what i mean
dont worry i think everyone of us thought the same when we first saw our snakes go into then out of shed
cheers shaun

thanks for explaining i never new ill make sure to check and do you think that little "tear" will effect his shed

it might but not likely just give him a warm soak for about 10-15 min and all will be fine i'd bet (soak daily until shed)

I don't soak my snakes. It's a bit stressful on them and myself. I would recommend a humid hide with damp sphagnum moss. All of my snakes have them, and I have yet to have a bad shed. Also, my boas, which require higher humidity get a good misting at sundown every day.

you will cause a lot more stress than is neccessary if you soak in the bath especially every day
IT IS NOT A RETAINED SHED WE ARE DEALING WITH
you said about 5 days ago his eyes cleared up.
it can take anything from 5 to 10 even 15 days depeneding on the individual snake before it sheds.

excellent suggestion if it were a retained shed or a difficult shed
but the time frame here im thinking the carpet will shed in his own time
it has only been 5 days since the eyes cleared up
CARPETS HAVE NO SPECIFIC HUMIDITY REQUIREMENTS
i would not mist any of my carpets
boas as you've said mate are completely different in humidty requirements
cheers shaun

it was the post about bathing it every 15 minutes that stressed me out
its way too early imo to go down that road
wish i was an expert mate

well when the snake is calm and cool a soak is fine. that is what im assuming his snake is... and a soak helps astronomically for a shed doesn't just have to be stuck... no need to just completely down my post

listen mate i was not downing your post
i honestly felt it was the wrong way to go about things in this case
yes there is a time and a place for your suggestion
i dont think 5 days after eyes clear up after blue is the time to go down that road
carpets have no specific humidity needs as long as their temperatures are correct they shed just fine
please understand a conflict in answers does not mean disrespect mate
it means a difference of opinions or a difference in ones own personal experiences of a situation nothing more

um i said 10-15 minuts every day... its a good habit if you think your snake is going to have a bad shed
if its the first time this snake has shed in your care then....
you cannot just think a snakes going to have a bad shed as thats your human assumption
unless your basing it on some kind of visual signs you have witnessed in said snake
if you know the snake you can base how it looks on previous sheds then decide to intervene or not
I ONLY COMMENT ON THINGS I HAVE HAD HANDS ON PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH
or after ive seen pictures i will give an opinion
in the op case we dont have pictures or enough information regarding the tare and the shed in question
as i explained in my previous post i was not having a go at you
i genuinely thought your post information was wrong on this particular case
cheers shaun

exactly my point
we dont have enough information about the tare
thats why i told the op that and requested pictures
then we could all have gave a much more informed opinion of what to do
for all we know its more than the shed thats torn
and soaking in a bath may make it worse
we had a difference of opinions and i feel i wrote my post politely with no malice what so ever.
my post was directed at the op not yourself

im pretty sure this thread is hijacked :( POSTERS DO NOT FORGET THE MAIN POINT OF IT
the only thing that will stop me from getting my jcp is if i feel i cant give it a good enough viv which is looking to be more of a problem everyday... i might just have to have my aunt take care of it till i can make a good one

you got a good aunt though mate from what ive read
infernalis has done a few threads on making vivs quite cheaply
a few branches a couple of card board box hides and you would be able to get your jungle mate
if its a young one you get tubs that would do it the first year or two quite cheap
if you post a thread asking wheres the cheapets place to get a jungle set up im sure plenty folk nearer to you than i am will give their reccomendations as to where to get it at the best prices
cheers shaun
just shed this morning i was lucky enough to watch the whole thing got some really nice vids and pics......full shed no problem :)
will post pictures !!!
and i have tried the bathtub he hates it even when i feed him in there ( no water )
he does not like it lol his shed measured 6.2 feet how long is he actually
