Here are pics of Jim showing off his new skin - the only snake i own that has bitten me more than once (so far!) - right feisty little swine he is. Trying to calm him down but all photo's are currently taken behind teh glass cos if i open the doors he strikes almost immediately.

Think someone else posted recently a snake with a "Scream" mask - noticed after his shed that Jim has one too......

The pictures with the more vivid yellow are more like his true colour - the flash/glass and reformat have washed him out considerably.

He is are resident dustbin - i defrosted three mice only to find that two of the others snakes had gone "blue" and werent interested in eating - he pounded all three as if he had never been fed!

Wont be long til proper pics shaun, he still comes out even when he strikes but then neither me nor him are in the mood for a studio session!

Last time he bit me my missus walked by and her skirt touched him, he struck her hand, my arm and then at my face (missed thankfully!) i realised he hit her and saw the face strike coming but never saw or realised that he got my arm til i had put him away and saw the two blood marks on my arm! Never known anythinng to move that quick!

I feed him off his perch and so far have not got his food inside the viv before he strikes it, last time was a good eighteen inch strike, again so damn quick i didnt even release the tongs and we had a second of tug of war before i could react.

May try to get some video footage.........

i would try feeding him out of his viv he seems to think you are food. i would this and see if he calms down.

Much easier to feed in the viv as he feeds hanging off a perch, he was okay getting him out of the viv until the skirt incident so am confident he will calm down again.

In between postings i just changed his water and this time although he was in strike pose he was interested in getting at me, so ijust sat and talked rubbish to him with the doors open wide. Give him a couple of days and will get him out again.

Nice Looking Carpet Rob. Our little guy hits everything that moves as well. It's kind of cute. Probably won't be as cute when he starts getting some size to him.

We feed ours out of his viv and have from day 1. He still strikes at everything. Face strikes are his specialty!

imo feeding inside the viv causing the snake to associate the viv door opening with food then being aggressive everytime the door opens is a mis conception

surely if that rule applied then everytime you took it out the viv to feed it, it would associatte that with being fed.no ?

so therefore everytime you took it out due to it associating that with feeding it would act agressive ?

i feed all my carpets in their tanks and not one of mine are bitey.

rob what you have there is a typical baby jungle mate

usually once they work out you are not a threat and wont eat them they calm down.

its crazy taming them down though aint it mate

cheers shaun

What surprises me is how the heartrate goes up when i go to get him, i have worked with dogs that are in their last days before being destroyed due to aggression and dominance issues and been attacked and bitten by them yet never really got that adrenal rush. Yet a snake thst you can barely feel when it hits you gets the old fight or flight reflex going?

Wonder if there is some primal instint in there somewhere............ Snakes more a threat than canines????

They are feisty when they are young. Try feeding him out of his enclosure a couple of times and that might help. When you hold him and he bites you, just keep holding him and let him know that you aren't going to put him back down.

Ours bites every time we handle him. My wife more so than me, probably because he knows he can draw blood from her.
