I plan on collecting a bunch of lake rocks. After treating them I plan on siliconing them together to form a nice hide. Is silicone a bad adhesive to use??

Cool. I'll post pics of the hide when finished. I think it is going to turn out really well.

make sure it is 100% silicone though (i would assume that is what you plan on using but just want to make sure) some of the other stuff can let off faint odors even after the cure

I've used it for securing perch holds to the sides of tanks, and it's always been fine. I always let it cure for a solid 24-48 hours before I put the snakes in though, and after it's cured I rinse out the area to remove residues.

I have a bunch of the rocks in bleach and water right now :)
Only thing I'm worried about is if the bond will be strong enough to support it when I pick it up. I guess we'll see. Gonna start the project tomorrow.

Post some pics of the rocks and maybe we can give you some tip on what way might work best.:)

The AQ type is best & ensure it is cured properly, Mark

As Mark has said use aquarium safe silicon, as it will last better and will also seal better too.

I am very interested in seeing the pics when you are finished! I prefer to recycle/make my own to buying overpriced store bought stuff.

Yep, thats whats inspiring me to build it. Gonna take some time but the picture in my mind looks really sweet!
Let's just hope it comes out this way.

In my opinion do not expose wet silicon to any animal especially in a confined unventilated area as the fumes are toxic.

As well as ensuring it dries well, I think it wise to consider support if possible, Like build it on a base and always lift it up by the base, then it will be less likely to stress and break.
Like for instance use a big flat shale stone and build up on that, then always lift the hide from below the shale piece, I hope that makes sense.. any large flat rock should do.
