Mold Issues

In my JCP tank I have wooden climbing structure and a wooden hide. Mold keeps popping up every now and then on the hide and a little on the climbing branches. I have newspaper for bedding. Fresh water every 24-48 hrs and the tank is at 80 degrees day and 78 night. Whats the issue?!?!

hmm is the wood treated with water sealant? maybe try to give eveything a good clean with bleech and water, and make sure to rince well after, maybe that will kill the mold spores from growing back.

Humidity is the issue.
Mould will only grow in high humidity areas.

how high is your humidity at? hey mykee, will he have to kill the spores with a little bleech when he lowers the humidity? im thinking now that the humidity was high enouph for them to start growing, the spores will live in a more dorment state even in lower humidity?

You'll need to bake your wood at 300 degrees for at least 20 minutes. I would also recommend replacing your wood with a synthetic product. Wood in high humidity applications just won't fair well regardless fo how you treat it in the long run.
Mould = bad deal with respiratory issues for all snakes. Humans too...

with high humid demanding snakes my experience is that you should use mostly plastic or faux wood anything that is porous and can soak up water can and usually will pop up with such high humidity and warm temp. real wood Ive seen is only used for like corn snakes and other temperate climate snakes. just a suggestion

Just a question, a random thought.

Placing the wood directly under the basking light (say to elevate the animal) would it last longer with the light shining on it. (seems as if it would force out any moisture)

are you still misting your jungle ??

its just jungles do not have any specific humidity needs.im sure i read in one of your posts you mist your tank.i keep carpets into double figures and do not mist any of them.all mine eat and shed 100% perfect everytime.

i run my jungles at 94f basking spot

84 to 86f abmbient temp

78f cool end

i place a water bowl at the cool end thats big enough for the snake to get into if it wants to

that should be all you need regards humidity in your tank

it should also sort out your mould problem pal

I don't mist my jungle. She just shed perfectly fine. I took hide out and plan on getting a plastic/ceramic hide. I havent ever seen her in the hide. She stays hidden in the climbing structure.

As Shaun has said jungles do not require specific humidity needs, so his temps and advice are perfect for your jungle. Mold is nasty once you get it in anything, you will have to fully disenfect everything in that enclosure to get rid of it.

my mistake pal it was another guy on here that mists his jungle

most if not all my carpets hardly ever use their hides.like yours they hang out up high on their branches.

i only have a humidity guage in my diamond tank.with just a water bowl in the cool side of the diamond tank my humidity sits between 50% and 70%

all my carpets just have a water bowl up their cool end.all of them eat and shed 100% perfect everytime.

if the jungles shedding all right then thats a great sign.

is it just the one piece of wood that gets mould or is it all over the tank in different places ???

Its just that one piece of wood. I gave her a bath when I noticed her eyes were a little cloudy. Shed over night perfect one piece shed. Should I not have to soaked her in water and let her go on her own?

i keep carpets into double figures and to date have never had to soak any of mine.

i did have to soak a carpet i rescued once but it was in a bad way.it had pneumonia a mite infestation and its shed came of in bits.

as long as your temperatures are ok they should do just fine leaving them to get on with it themselves.
