I just bought 2 feet and taped it up on the bottom of the tank. Now i see it fell off but my temps are still where they need to be. So the flexwatt is now laying under the tank on the stand, with 3/8 of an inch between the flexwatt and tank.

i was wondering if it would be ok like that. But the other day i got some aluminum tape and taped it up. Seems to work alot better this way now.

Aluminum tape is BAD news. Aluminum is conductive, so you may short out your heat tape and set your house on fire. Just saying...
I just tape the clear sides (1/4") with black electrical tape.

I tried electrical tape, holds for 15 mins then falls off. Everyone told me to use the metal tape, thats what everyone uses that iv spoke to, and it holds forever. There is no way it can short out anyway. I taped the open ends it black tape and it holds.

Read up on it at ball-pythons.net

Don't need to read up on it.
I've been using it for ten years.
I use either push pins to hold the tape to the routered melamine, or electrical tape to adhere it to un-routered melamine.
I also don't use fish cages for snakes, that's so....1997.

Actually, I do have an issue. Though you were the tipping point, please don't take all of my ire personally (or any of it to be quite frank).
I, like a few other members on here who have been around a while am getting sick and downright fu**ing tired of people coming on here and asking a question when they already know exactly what they are going to do.
If you're looking for someone to agree with you, ask your Mommy.
This is the exact reason that a LOT of knowledgeable breeders and keepers with tons of experience to share are packing in posting on open forums; kids with $1000 worth of allowance money on snakes, and three weeks experience who know everything.
Again, you're just the straw that broke this camels back.
Don't take it personally....

I do it Mykee way and yeah he might not be Mr. friendly, but he been breeding for many, many years a know from first hand experience what he talking about. I had snake over 17 years myself. Anyone with 1/2 a brain knows better than to use aluminum tape on electrical wires. It doesn't matter if you like him or me for that matter. It all about the health and safety of YOUR SNAKE. If all your looking for is yes men try another site, because you won't find them here. If you want to listen to some dumb--s who don't know what their talking about. Then don't come crying to us when your snakes dies.

Who ever said i was using it on electrical wires??? Im taping the flexxwatt to the bottom of my tank. Flexwatt has about 1/4 inch or so on each side where there is nothing but plastic, so i still dont see the problem. Tape the edges of the plastic and its fine, not going over or close to anything electric.

I don't have that much experience, I am new.. but mykee and marvelfreak both gave me advice in the past and both have helped out a lot. I don't want to get thrown in the middle of everything, but they know their shi*..... just saying my $.02...

can we make this a sticky but remove the "I's" and replace them with "We" im sure no one can misunderstand that all the tips are in good faith, and have nothing to do with what the person asking thinks or feels about the situation, its 100% about the snakes health and its not a sick joke to hurt the snake and the owners feeling at the same time. both these guys know their stuff, its for the best to listen to what they say, you can try to investigate for yourself to prove them wrong but in the end i would bet my right arm they are right.

Did anyone even read my last post?????? The tape is not on any wires or anything electrical. Its on plastic!!! Read!!! Plastic with tape on it has no way of harming anything, simple as that. Just because you guys have been doin it for years, dosent mean you know every single thing about everything, so give it up, stop trying to be a big shot.

I will not agree and say im wrong. I know two snake breeders, one has a reptile store here. They both do it the same way, they are not wrong .They are very successful, selling snakes, and keeping snakes. Still see no problem putting tape on the bare plastic part of flexwatt.

Well if you don't care about their opinion, why are you still posting on this thread? Just do it how you want and move on. Not being an @$$, just saying that it seems like your mind is made up, what's the point of keeping this open?

Basically, the aluminum tape is for HVAC applications. I agree electrical tape is not sticky enough. Nobody is saying do not use tape on the flexwatt, just not the aluminum tape. It is a conductive material, and even if you use it on the sides electricity does arc. A safer route might be masking tape, or duct tape even packing/sealing tape. Better safe than sorry wouldn't you agree?

tuct tape is so much more sticky that duct tape. :) i used duct tape to apply my heat cord and a few short weeks later the heat melted the glue enouph to make it fall off the bottom of my tank, Tuct tape on the other hand is so Good, its still on their as good as the day i used it. super sticky :)

good idea. and yea its on the plastic and not on the wire but even if you decide to not change it. it may be a good idea to maybe seal it so it cant conduct like paint over it or maybe use some of that electrical tape to cover it up
