is 5 high buy 5 wide buy 6 long good for a burm (full size) also I was thinking of useing lanolem tiles for substrate, and putting a resessed tub in the cage as well does this soud about right for a snake this big?

Sort of. Dimensions are all wrong for a terrestrial snake. A Burm will utilize 1 foot of floor space a THOUSAND times more than it will 3 feet of height. I'd knock that cage down to 2 (maybe 2.5) feet high and 6 or so feet wide. Way easier to get a thermal gradient going, and it'll give the big snake a chance to cruise.

Tiles are fine with a newspaper substrate (or paper towel).

PM Corey W. as he has a ton of biggie Burms and he'll gladly tell you his cage dimensions. I doubt he uses 5 foot high cages though.

Best of luck. Burms aren't for everyone.

I dont have the room to go any wider or longer and the hight is more for ease of cleaning

How is a taller cage easier to clean?

i know nothing but i would associate more space with more to clean. unless you mean being able to get your whoe body in there to clean it.

Hmmmm..tough man. PM Corey on that one. He'll tell you the min. floor space needed for a Burm. I'd trust what he tells you.

maybe you could make it not as tall but raise it off the floor with an attractive shelving unit ;) the you wouldnt have to croutch down and get on all fours to looky at the *little* snakey! :p

I have to disagree with that. Given the space, I have found that
burms will utilize vertical space very well and make excellent display animals. Often people assume that because they are sooooo huge and heavy, that they stick mainly to the ground, so they don't give them the opportunity. We used to house 3 of our big burms at work (9', 11', 13') in a 9' tall enclosure and two of them spent most of their time in the trees, the 11-footer not as much as the other two, but still climbed around some. If someone can't have a tall cage, then by no means is the snake going to suffer, but if someone can devote the vertical space, I would definitely suggest it.........

I am using L=6 W=4 H=2 for my burms.

there is a local pet shop around here . The only good one I've found here. they have both. they have a large burm in a 6'x4'2.5' and then they have a whole small room over towards the fish area devoted to their big albino burm. they also have a room devoted to two huge Green Iguanas.

THANK YOU! my original idea for my burm was to section off a small room for her, with room to climb, but I had been told thats a waste of space. so when I do buy a house later this year thats exactly what i will be doing!

I think what she is saying is that - given the vertical space she will use it ..

I agree with linds .. I had 2 (8 and 12) burms once and they were in a four foot high cage and they loveved the height .. gave em something to do..

They won't perch like a green tree python but if you can somehow give them a kind of floor space up top with 2 or three branches up there strong enough to hold their body wieght then yes, u have a chance they could go up there and sleep in the branches.. I have seen it happen b4..

Height is not essential .. floor space is .. but its defenetly has its advantage.. It probably would be harder to keep warm .. especially burms .. I find them prone to Resperitory infections..

Take care

I have had very large inclosures before and had shelves about 5 feet up in the corners and my 14 ft burm used it all the time and it also helped him thermoregulate as heat rises it was warmer on the self than on the bottom and he loved it!
