God i wish i would have gotten a picture. My Yellow Anaconda just tag my neighbor. I was outside taking pics of my BRB and he came over to watch. Got done put him up and was showing him my Yellow. He was holding it when my youngest son came running in the room and spooked it and it bit Bill. I felt so bad being this was the first time he ever held a snake. He was cool about it. Five little teeth hole a little bit of blood. There i am holding my camara in one hand so wanting to get a pic, but didn't want to be like " hey man my snake just bit you can i get a picture of the bite." I thnk part of it was i had it out for 20 minutes just 15 minutes before taking pics and he just didn't want to be messed with anymore. My bad. By the way ours as alot more blood than Bill's did. Welcome to the club.

Haven't take a bite pic yet but I'm still early in the game ;). My GTP, ironically named Serenity, tags me a few times every time I reach in to spot clean or refill the water bowl. Hopefully she's so nippy just because she is only about a week and a half into her new home and is just getting settled in.
And oh yeah... That looks relatively vicious for a non-hot wound. Congrats :)

Well, I got to tell you it was a relief. I always anticipate it, but aside from our little carpet who bites everything that moves, have not been tagged. I've been hissed at, tracked and musked on, but the first tag wasn't too bad. I've had harder bites from ferrets, cats, dogs, cows, rats, rabbits, women (oh no you didn't) and gerbils.

Not so much but left about 40 little bruises where the teeth impacted. It was actually the coolest bruise i've ever gotten! Thinking of getting it as a tatoo.

I used to flinch and tear up when I got tagged. But about 6 months ago, I got nailed by my 8ft super dwarf retic, Baby. And now nothing fazes me. That bite was a killer- blood pouring down my arm, it bruised up for like 2 weeks and I had a perfect horseshoe marking of her teeth...only the front of the mouth though. The way she nailed me she only hit me with about the front half of her mouth, and it was still wicked. She was hungry and I varied the routine and moved too quickly, so it was completely my fault. The last few bites from my smaller guys I haven't even flinched and I don't startle much anymore...thank you, Baby...
First picture is right after I ran it under water to clean it and second picture is the bruising a week later. I was proud of that one and showed it to everyone...people at school thought I was nuts. hahahaha!

now you all have me worried. lol. My snake has never so much as hissed at me... well, i was moving his water dish around and he gave a sad attempt at a hiss then stopped caring. He is so docile. Everyone tells me it's just a matter of time until i'm bit, which is ok, but you're all talking about getting snapped at daily. I feel really lucky to have such a laid back snake. He's a redtail boa, are they known for being very laid back? (I'm new) 8)
He bit one person, but we were in a stressful environment full of children animals and noise. I was at the pet store getting him checked.

Don't worry it really doesn't hurt. lol No it feels like a pin pick. Most of the people on here talking about getting bit quite often own tons of snakes. I have own snakes for 17 years and only been bit maybe 10 to 12 times every. One thing that help is learning how to read your snake and have really fast reflex helps.
Nice one Kim. I use to finch to till i got nail by a 8 foot burm. After having it wrap around my hand for 15 minutes with it teeth sunk in everything else is nothing. Feeding responce bites are way worse than defensive bites.

MarvelFreak: you're right, I feel like i'm pretty good about reading Peaches. He is very expressive; which no one believes me, they say he is a snake, he doesn't "express" but I can tell when i should stop prodding him and when he is happy. I don't think i'm going to get bit unless he gets scared by someone, which will probably happen with my artard friends. 8/ haha. Also, i am going to stick to only one snake. I know i could not handle more.

that sounds sooo awful, i would much rather Peaches bite me, he is hardly 3 feet long w a mouth about the size of my thumb, and i'm a 18 year old girl, so i don't have big thumbs. lol.

The worst part about getting tagged is knowing that you did something to make your friend uncomfortable so that they felt the need to defend themselves against you. In my opinion.

I agree totally Press. A snake will be a snake, all the time. When you get bitten, it's your fault, as they are consistent and instinctual and will always be snakes. We people are the ones who are not consistent. We deserve their little "reminders." lol

I just got another! From my new coastal! I reached in his tub to check his temps, and change his water and BAM! right on the knuckle. No pics this time, but it is a whole lot less stressful the second time. :hmm: I asked him why he was grumpy, washed the blood of and continued what I was doing. Then, to prove he did not frighten me I took him out and we bonded for awhile. My wife of course is afraid of him now, but that just means here is another snake she won't steal from me!:yes::yes::yes:

I never mess with my snake if i been drinking. Reflex are to slow and it always seem to lead to someone getting bit.

My hands tend to shake quite alot, and if I have a drink it steadies them. So, I'll typically handle my snakes after a shot or two, but definitely not more than that. That being said, you gave sound advice Chuck. You should not handle your snakes if you are impaired. I've seen youtube video's of people that should be incarcerated for animal cruelty. Re: drinking

after all a snake is a snake
like the tale of the scorpian hitching a lift on the frogs back across the flooding river
he stings the frog killing it and in doing so drowns himself
as he's die'ing the frog asks why
i am a scorpian and that is what i do
