Can barely believe it but the GTP ate a mouse the same size that i feed my adult corn snake! I have some pics but am on the IPAD at the moment and cant post them, hope to get them up tomorrow.
How old is the GTP? My male GTP likes big meals

About a year, he is an 09. This was his second meal for me.

Welcome to the world of Morelias. Just like with carpet it amazing the size of food they eat. My bredli carpet and borneo are the same age and my bredli eat the same size rats as the borneo. Even though he quite a bit smaller.

Well here are the pics - didn't realise how many i took!! The blood you can see on the perch is from the mouse - i damaged its nose when picking it up with the tongs - all cleaned up now!

looking good rob.
glad he's eating away for you.like chuck said you'll be surprized at the size of a meal morelia can put away.
my bred were hammering large weaners and small rats not long after they were a year old.eating machnines is what they are...!!
only my thoughts mate but once you have established he's eating regular i'd try and get him onto rats.make it easier to feed as an adult.a medium rat is a lot better than having to give multipul large mice.
i always try and get my hatchlings onto rats from the time they're big enough to take rat pups.which is mostley a few feeds after they're out the egg.
nice pictures mate keep them coming.
cheers shaun

Nice Pic's Rob! I love how they hang upside down and eat. Was that blood I saw on his perch? Squeeze a little hard did he? ;)

I try to not touch their food with my hands to avoid any confusion with smells, i picked up the mouse by the head with the tongs ot turn it around to get a better grip before feeding and somehow caught the mouses nose and it started bleeding.
Take your point about the rats shaun, thanks, once he is established will start switching him over, i get the feeling that he will be a dustbito be honest and eat anythign we give him!
The scariest part of feeding is that he was aseep when i opened the viv and in one movement he woke up and struck a good third of his length, during which time i could see that he wasnt holding on with his tail and as he was wrapping the mouse with his front end his tail was wrapping on the perch to get a proper hold, i really thought he would get a good hold and THEN strike but hey, he seems to know what he is doing!!

GTPs are not as bad as everyone says they are. They are generally not that aggressive, if you know how to approach them and if they are set up properly they will thrive. They are more delicate than, say, a BP or a carpet, but not much more so than a blood IMHO. I had more trouble with my bloods than I have had with my GTPs or ETBs.

I think best thing is to go into it with lots of reading and research behind you. So far its not as much hassle or worry as i was lead to believe. I hope it continues that way!!

It seems that's the best course with any new animal.

Im so glad Im not the only one who feels this way. My GTPs are wonderful and VERY handleable. I hate when people assume Im lying when I say mine are docile. They do have more delicate temperaments sometimes. But routine and good environment and handling can make a very docile GTP

Little bugger had me sweating last night!! Did my normal pre bedtime roinds and he was hanging from his usual perch but his head was tucked between two of his coils and his head was also upside down.
Never seen him like this before so was a little worrieed especially when i couldn't see any signs of breathing so opened his viv and gently touched him and there was barely any movement. In the end i lightly sprayed him at which he turned his head over and looked at me as if to say "i was asleep, what you do that for!!!"
Will know to just leave him alone next time! :)

Haha, chondros do some weird stuff sometimes. My girl Sunset likes to coil with her head at the bottom, upside down. Archie likes to hang out on the ground during the day under some fake foliage. They are quite variable animals, and are always surprising us with their antics. Generally the only time you have to worry about a dead chondro is if it is limp on the ground. They won't stay coiled if they are not healthy.

haha just bought my first GTP, which as far as I can tell has really docile temperament. But it also sounds, from reading this thread, that they have quite a personality:)
Anyway she seems happy now in her new home, which I spent some good money on her and home to ensure such situation, so hopefully all goes well. Either way I'm excited to see how she grows and evolves.
P.S. It's my third snake in about four weeks... I think I'm addicted. But I also think this collection will satisfy me for now.
Maybe just one more eh :)
