hey all.. just have a question regarding heat for my JCP.. is just having a UTH enough to keep her warm? should i have a over tank heat source if i can?..i have a big water dish in there for her to drink or soak in if she needs to but i see so many people vary in saying if JCP need humidity or not.. iv been told they dont and then i read they do..everyone says something different and im getting confused -.-;
i just want the best for my beauty! im using exoterra UTH by the way.. the bottom of her tank seems very warm but is it enough o.o? what kind of temp gauge do you all recommend?

Have you got it thermostatted? If so what temps are you running at?

i dont have it thermostatted..i dont know how to hook one up..i could get a cheap dimmer switch i suppose for it..
it says that it is 86 where her hot side is with an above tank heat source..but the sensor is not exactly on the bottom of her 40 gal terrarium where the uth is...its probably hotter on the bottom of the tank where she sleeps most of the day..
any sugestions on a good temp gauge to use? im not sure the one im using is great for it.. hm..its a zilla digital monitor with heat and humidity sensor.
she does often like to come out at night (being nocturnal of course) and chill in her branches.. so that must mean is not to cold.. mostly confused on the humidity thing i guess.. i will be upgrading her set up as i get cash next month/middle of this..

with you having a decent sized water bowl in there humidity should be ok.
over here you can buy hydrometers.they are little guages just like thermometers.
any heat sources you have should be on a thermostat
i may have read your post wrong but do you have 2 heat sources ?
a top source and a bottom was how i read the post.
i am unfamiliar with uth heaters so cant comment on that
i use ceramic non light emmiting bulbs in all my carpet tanks
do you have any pictures of your set up ?
do you know the temperature of your cool end of your tank ?
cheers shaun

There is no way to tell if the uth would be enough without you having a thermometer, or better yet a digital temp gun, to measure the temps. But I would not think a uth would be the way to go. I would go with a heat bulb or ceramic heat emitter over the tank instead of the uth. Snakes prefer an overhead basking source.
