I just watched the movie called The Cove, about japan dolphin killing, OMG! that movie breaks your heart, i feel ashamed to be part of the human race right at this moment :( i cant believe the japanies govnerment and a small portion of japanies people love doing this to dolphin so much they will do anything and everything to cover it up and keep it going until their is no more dolphins or whales or fish for them to have fun slaughtering in the world. let hope they dont decide they like killing people....oh actually they dont care about that either, they feed the highly toxic"murcury" dolphin to the extent of killing and mutating their own people with false label ie naming it a different fish.... unbelievable to say the least. im no softy but if you can sit their and watch that movie with out having a lump in your throat, their has got to be somthing wrong with your brain. :(:mad::mad::mad:

I almost started this same thread...

They do the same kind of thing taking harpoon ships into whale breeding grounds.

If the entire world refused to do business with Japan, it would stop in a second flat.

japan refers to dolphins and whales as pest because they eat to many fish in the wild, kill them all and its more fish for them.

the people on the show were saying that is their claim to start whaling again, not the fact the we just pull to many fish out of the oceans.

I agree, but my mom, who is Japanese, calls this BS. I am a big supporter of animal rights. I would rain machine gun fire on Japanese whaling ships any day.

I call Scientific Whaling an excuse to keep whaling.

BTW, please don't put any spoilers, I just got this movie.

Shameful, utterly shameful that our leaders and the powers that be in general don`t get this stopped :( But then again I could say the same about a number of global issues, Palestine for example. How on earth could could a group of people treated so so terribly by nazis do exactly the same thing to others?! There are many many issues like this that when combined leave me all too aware that we the people have next to no say in things. After all, we`d do things very diferently to how the various governments do right? I bloody would anyway. Politics suck global sized arse.

ya for sure, i see lots of thing and just think, what is wrong with this picture, how is this happening, how could these govt. not see this as a bad idea and not do anything to right these wrongs. Mind boggling isnt it the world we live in. even know it says we can vote and whatnot it dont make a difference, the people behind the figure head we vote in are the ones running the puppet show.... sad times for change :(

i could have sworn i started one about it or mentioned it before, lol however i've not been on in a while... anywho the whole movie is a good idea just to shed some light on the situation and changes that need to be made in regards to all of the fishing industry as well as other areas dealing with animals.

Sean, I remember very clearly, we were discussing the Sea Shepherds.

This movie tore me me up to watch.

they also had a show on animal planet call blood dolphins which was all about dolphin traders. how they would capture them and sell them to dolphin trainers then kill off the rest.

us humans can never be the main cause of a problem. blame it on dolphins for killing off too many fish even though its natural food chain. cant stand that movie.

I may come off a little "cold blooded" for this remark, but please understand I love animals as much as anyone else around here. However considering the overall state of the world right now I think everyone's gov. has bigger things to worry about. Thus the reason nothing is being done...just bigger more important things. We got countries coming apart at the seams and it effects us all. There will always be something bigger than animal conservation...always have and always will.

Don't get me wrong though, I saw the movie and it was sad. What makes me even more sad is that they sell the dolphin meat to their schools. Dolphin meat has high amounts of mercury in it...and they are feeding their children this stuff even knowing this fact.

Well...now that I've read what you all have said...I will not be watching this movie at all. I watched "Snakes on a Plane" and couldn't believe the stress they put all those beauties through. That was enough for me--and they even said no snakes were harmed!

This movie is a documentary, so yes the dolphins are harmed, they are slaughtered.

The Japanese government did not want this footage seen, they even tried to arrest the film crew for being in a public park recording the atrocity.

It's not meant to be entertaining, it's informative and heart wrenching.

"snakes on a plane" is a joke of a movie, that was made for entertainment.....

Yeah, can't see myself watching a documentary like that! I know it happens and they have to let people see what is really happening, but I'll just take your word on it.

There are so many cruel things that go on around the world just because of the ole mighty dollar. Very sad that humans can be so inhuman!

The problem with this issue, and many others, is that they always degrade the movement from the beginning by putting the most unlikeable sissies imaginable at the forefront, like those Whale Wars people. Leave it to the media to poison the image of humanitarians and environmentalists by only showing a one-sided hippie perspective when it comes to controversial social issues. They'll never take us seriously with wimps like Dennis Kucinich, Michael Moore and the Sea Shepherds representing us.

Whales don't eat fish....

?

Sure they do. Any toothed whale will eat a fish if it can get its hands on it. So will any dolphin.
*edit* I'm aware that whales and dolphins do not have hands.

Also, technically, large baileen toothed whales eat fish indirectly. By eating hundreds of tonnes of plankton a year, a schoolbus sized whale is taking a big chunk out of the support system that feeds the little fish that feeds the big fish that feeds Japanese people so there's your justification for harpooning that guy...

Also, that's a lot of lipstick.

That whale must have passed the story along. His great great great grand son smashed someone's yacht about a year ago with a body slam. Don't know if you remember that. "Hey. Don't whale watch me. I'm serious." ... ... SMASH!
