Carpets are a great choice for a next snake. They are great feeders once they get going, very active for a python, nearly all are arboreal and prefer to perch, get to a decent size but not too big and most are very docile. I would get a yearling so you know what the temperement will be like, it will be feeding well, you can tell what they will end up looking like at that age and they will be less defensive.
All carpets are very hardy and allow for mistakes more so than most other species and they dont require any specific humidity needs. They are very easy to care for!!!

How big is a yearling? What size tank do we need for a yearling?

Its size all depends on what type of carpet, feeding regime and when it first started eating. I have found yearlings in my experience to be 2.5-3 foot or more, but these are only my experience others have smaller and of course bigger examples. I put yearlings into an adult size tank which is a 4x2x2 or a 4x2x3 depending on if you want them to climb more or not.

As long as they have plent of hides they will love all the space. When i had more carpets they were always put in a 4x2x2 when they reached yearling age and i never had one refuse a feed or not come out to play on all the new things.

Hmm possibly cause its never had perches before. All mine used their perches all the time, even the olive who is meant to be a ground dwelling snake loves to perch in his branches. I have and always would keep all medium sized arboreal species in a 4x2x3 but the 4x2x2 is the minimum.
