View Full Version : Found a rare treat - Native green snakes (New Pics!)

Found this lovely Smooth Green snake in the back yard.
This is a young adult, they don't get a whole lot bigger. Primary diet is insects and spiders.
First specimen I have seen in a few years, Used to see them a lot, but increased use of pesticides have diminished the numbers significantly.

Scooting over my race track. Impossible to see these in the grass, but when they cross rocks or bare dirt, they stick out.

Sadly, this species does horribly in captivity.

Awe, that's too bad. Hopefully they can successfully breed plentiful in the wild.. It would be such a shame if they die out.
