Hello and welcome to the site. If you just buy it and bring it home she cant say anything as its too late. I have done this before as a last resort and works just fine.

Get a Burm, tell her they don't get as big as retics.

try to find yourself a dwarf, they get about 12-14 feet tops for females, males about 10 feet. or show her lots of stuff on super dwarf which are like 10 feet females, males at like 7 feets, or if they cost to much for you, then secretly get a regular one and say its a super dwarf, a few years down the road she will love it and wont get rid of it when it hits 17 feet :P Oh damn dear i dont know what making it grow so big it a super dwarf i swear.....LOL Retics are great snakes, i got a dwarf retic and i love her to peices. Welcome to the forum :)

LOL thats pretty funny. ill have to think about that. i did look at some nice dwarfs before but i did a lot of researching and i hear that because of the engineering of them and sizing them down through generations, they become and are quite moody? true?

dwarfs and super dwarfs are alittle more moody than the mainland, dwarf males can get up in size too about 14ft
i would wait until your wife is 100% with you on the retic, because they do get big and you will need someone to help you with the retic, my big girl is only 7ft but when she is about 14ft there is no way i can take her out and be 100% save...
if you like i know someone you can talk to about retics and a forum thats all about the big guys.

Any snake over ten foot needs a person on stand by incase things go wrong. I have learnt how much power a snake at 11 foot has and its far more than any person i have ever met. I dont 100% trust any snake as they all still have their bad days and when frightened can easily snap and coil. I have two people with me when dealing with my scrubs.
The rule of thumb I've heard tossed around is 1 person for every 4 feet of snake. Given what just happened to Freebody http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/general-discussion/83941-new-coastal-jad-1-freebody-0-a.html I would take it seriously. He's looking at surgery from a 5 1/2 foot snake.
Do you have three friends who will help you every time you need to handle your retic? If you do, get them to agree to it, and tell your fiance this. Getting this in writing should help. Figure out what you would keep it in. You're probably going to need to build a custom enclosure. Draw up plans, make sure it's escape proof, make it lockable. An adult retic is an unbelievably strong animal, if you can escape from inside, it can, make sure it's strong enough to contain the snake. You should also consider volunteering with a reptile rescue, zoo, animal park, or giant snake owner to get the experience. Learn how to hook train a snake.
The long and the short of it is, a giant python *is* a dangerous animal. Your fiance is right in that respect. However, that doesn't mean they can't be kept responsibly. Thousands of people keep them responsibly without incident. Get the education, get the back up, and get the proper equipment. If you can show your fiance that you're prepared to keep a reticulated python, and can do it safely, then she should be open to persuasion.
If she still won't hear of it, try to make her a snake person. When I got my first snake, my wife hated them. Now she has three snakes of her own. Get a beautiful, charismatic snake, I recommend a garter (small, colorful, very active, and they slither around with their heads in the air like little periscopes.).
I do not think, under any circumstances, buying it without permission is a good idea. The best case scenario is that she'll be furious and feel betrayed. The worst case scenario is that you find yourself no longer having a fiance.

finding a superdwarf might be hard but sd retics are pretty cool looking, as Nafun stated, make sure you're ready for this commitment. obviously you have other snakes so i'm sure you have done some research but remember even dwarf retics get huge, superdwarfs are a little more manageable if you need some extra space or your wife doesnt like snakes lol

I have an sd retic female I got off CL for $70. She is super sweet. I even let the neighbors' kids play with her when I have her out in the grass, and she is repeatedly requested for photo shoots with models. She's absolutely one of the friendliest, most personable and beautiful snakes I own. But she does have a heck of a feeding response. She is around 8-9 feet long.
Any retic is a dangerous snake. Heck, your BCI could be dangerous. A large snake is capable of harming a person. The best bet for you guys, if you do end up getting a retic or Burmese or any other "giant" python is to install a good lock on the cage and not give your kids the key. You can also just lock the room the snake is kept in.

i have to correct, the surgury im looking at is from a work injury which made the whole thing 100% worse for me :P, but the attack i got was Very powerfull, i did stuggle alot to keep him from keeting my hand coiled up but at after less than a minute he hand my hand all tied up and was squeezing very hard till i ran his head under water, after he had gotten around my hand i could not pull him off, i would move one part he just tightend another over and over, at 10 feet i would have been in very big trouble. my dwarf retics is super super friendly with no signs ever of agression but one hell of a crazy feeding response. which easilyy could get you tagged, she got me twice before but let go not like the attack from my jag the other day. her mother was full grown at under 14 feet so i really depeds on the quality specimen you buy as to how dwarf its genes are. at 10 feet 2 peeps is 100% needed if at a minimum just to poor water on its head or just to call for more help as you wrestle to keep it off your airways.

Or you could do what I have to do. Wait until the last child is out of the "food size" range. The first child is due in November. So I have a couple years and then good to go.
