^should come check out the Lied Jungle at the Henry Dorly Zoo in Omaha, NE. They've even got a BRB. Lied Jungle | Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo | Visit Omaha | Entertainment Omaha (http://www.omahazoo.com/exhibits/lied-jungle/)
<take the diameter of your snake at the widest point, then multiply by about 1.25 for the diameter of appropriate food. This is not exact by any means. But a little wider than the widest point of their body is what most people say. It should leave a lump for about 48 hours. Also I'm really bored at work and stuck here for the next 23 minutes. I should be reading a book for class, but I just can't get into it.
v will come visit the Lied Jungle next spring once the zoo reopens.
Roberto G
09-17-11, 10:22 PM
^is very lucky to have that exhibit near his house! (thanks for the info about feeding)

V will show a picture of his/her snake in blue
Lankyrob
09-18-11, 03:01 AM
^ i tend to leave my snakes alone in blue so have np pics
> the timesing snake width by 1.25 may be good for some colubrids but my corns take 2 or 2.5 times their width and my carpet and sd retic take at least 3-3.5 times their width there is no rule that fits all snakes as some metabolise quicker than others and some take huge or tiny meals compared to their size
V has got a pic of a snake in blue
Roberto G
09-18-11, 08:25 PM
^ gave me very good information and I used it to feed my CRRB today! Here are some pictures! :) http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd91/RobertoGut/Rainbow%20Boa/DSC06036.jpg

10-05-11, 08:01 PM
^ Is right, I love random trivia!
> Many of the tiger snakes of Tasmania are blind. This is because their primary source of food is gull chicks. This is a problem because gull are protective of their nests, and have looooong, sharp beaks.
v Is jealous that I'm going to my first reptile expo this weekend!
ZARADOZIA
10-06-11, 04:32 AM

Gungirl
10-06-11, 10:24 AM
^ is tiny!
> wants a blue GTP
v wants to donate money to help me buy a nice quality blue GTP
youngster
10-06-11, 10:31 AM
^ Yeah right! If I had that kind of money I would get one for myself! :P
> Also wants a blue GTP
v Wants to tell me another of their fave corn morphs!
millertime89
10-06-11, 10:53 AM
^has good taste, blue GTPs are awesome, but black GTPs are even cooler
<is definitely crazy, an SD would be awesome, but I'm doing as much research as possible before making that purchase. I also don't know much about corns, never really interested me. I'll go with Albino for now
v will have a better answer for favorite corn morph than I will.
ZARADOZIA
10-09-11, 04:32 AM
^ Nope, no corn morp info here.
< Spent too much at Repticon. Had Zip, Zero, Zilche, Nada intentions of buying anything ...but fell in love with the Italian Leatherback Bearded Dragons. I bought 2. They are smaller than my thumb right now. Fell in love with a marblized boa...omg she was lovely, handled great, and didn't want to let me go. After we left hubby says, "I really thought you were going to buy her." I am thinking to myself, "Well Sh*t! If I knew he would be ok with it I would have!" lol But I did get the guy's card. I have a set-up for the dragons but not for another snake. I will have to wait until next year before I get one. I prefer to have the setup first. I will post pics later. I was sick all night after eating lunch and didn't take any of our new babies last night.
v Also went to the expo this weekend and will tell us what they got!
^ Didn't go to an expo this weekend but went to one on the 17th and bought a Dumerils boa.

V Either went herping or to an expo this weekend and will tell us what they found/bought.
Mikey T
10-10-11, 09:39 AM
^is wrong, I didn't go to an expo or herping this weekend, but will be attending the upcoming Montreal expo.

V will be Joining me at the Montreal Expo or will send me an adult Coastal Carpet Female for my newest boy.
Snakefood
10-10-11, 10:10 AM

> has a nasty bacterial lung infection and is NOT having fun!!!
V will join Mikey T at the expo, but probably won't be giving him a coastal carpet!
Mikey T
10-10-11, 02:59 PM
^ should drink chamomile tea (more for inhaling the steam) to help the lung infection
> Is wondering if ^ is actually coming to the Montreal show?
V is also going to inform us if they are coming to the Montreal show ( or bringing me a Coastal Female)
stephanbakir

V Should come and nurse me back to health, and bring retics they have for sale to the MTL expo.
Gungirl
10-10-11, 03:57 PM

V has recently seen a movie s/he recommends
stephanbakir
10-10-11, 04:21 PM
^Is correct, but the movie is NOT forum appropriate :P
>Just stubbed my thumb and now it too is turning purple....
V Knows someone whos bringing retics to the MTL expo.
Mikey T
10-10-11, 06:36 PM
^ WRONG... I do not know anyone selling Retics at the expo (but am digging to find out), and should put ice on said thumb
> Decided to come to work to paint cars, starting just now 8:34 pm, gunna be a loooong nite
V will undoubtedly say i should have started much earlier, and hopefully will know someone to bring Steph some Retics
Snakefood
10-10-11, 06:58 PM

blindfireak40
10-10-11, 07:50 PM
^Celebrates Thanksgiving?!?! I thought it was just us yanks...
>Wish I COULD start in on turkey day dinner right now. I've lost like 8 pounds since having to cook my own food. On the upside, I now know how to microwave a potato
V Will share a GREAT college/bachelor recipe that is super-cheap, delicious, and NOT canned.
Mikey T
10-10-11, 08:03 PM
^ Now knows the secret of fast baked potatoes
> will take BBQ sauce, soya sauce, sugar, cinnimon, and whatever else is in the fridge and pantry, 1 lb of ground beef, add veggies if you like, fry all together and serve on top of white rice, (feeds me for 2 days ) or classic Kraft Dinner with cut up hot dogs works well too.
V will tell us how they coped with the poor times
millertime89
10-10-11, 08:09 PM
^1 box kraft mac and cheese, 1 banquet chicken patty, make mac'n'cheese, heat up chicken patty, slice into strips, mix in with mac, enjoy, for extra flavor, buy green/red peppers, onions, mushrooms, dice and mix in with noodles while boiling
<is still experimenting with cheap and delicious college recipes.
V is out of college and will share a HEALTHY cheap and delicious recipe.
Snakefood
10-10-11, 10:01 PM
^ is right, I've been out of college for a while!!
> tons of shoestring recipes!! Any leftover/cheap (cooked) meat + frozen veg, add cream of _____ soup, top with bisquick mix. Bake till golden brown (350 oven) then EAT! or tomato soup and snackies, make soup! cut sliced bread into 9 peices, top with small pc cheddar cheese and small piece of bacon, broil at high till bacon cooked, serve with soup. or butter dumplings, 1 tbsp of butter/marg for each egg. beat together and add flour till thick and stretchy, drop spoonfuls into soup pot at slight boil untill solid (BTW all you college folks, get a crock pot and you can make healthy tasty and cheap meals.)
V may have something else to add for our college going folks!!
alessia55
10-10-11, 11:14 PM
^ crock pot = college must-have
< is still in college (will be done this coming May!)... my advice on cheap HEALTHY: it costs me $60 a week to make 3 meals a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner) AND snacks (I live off-campus and off the college meal plan (Which is far more expensive). It's all a matter of good bargain deals, knowing where and how to shop, & choosing to spend on fruits and nuts rather than junk food = the key to staying healthy & avoiding the "freshmen 15"
V is going to be at the Hamburg PA show this Saturday...?
Gungirl
10-11-11, 05:37 AM
^ Is doing good.. not long to go!
< isn't going to the show :(, I do however cook a mean meal. Cheap cuts of beef(or anything really) left in heavy cream to soak for 2 days will always grill and fall apart in your mouth like a really expensive cut. Add brown sugar and any spices you like it tastes like heaven!
v doesn't know how to cook so if they cant microwave it they don't make it
shaunyboy
10-11-11, 05:53 AM
^ the opposite,i can't stand microwaves
> likes to cook the traditional way
v will tell us what they do the traditional way ?
lady_bug87
10-11-11, 07:34 AM
^ would be surprised what I can manage "traditionally" lol I'm Italian by heritage I cook, clean (the ol fashion way no magic scrubbies for me I get a brush and a bucket and vinegar and bleach) and speak 2 different dialects of Italian
> is home alone as my husband is on business (yet again)
v will tell us something interesting about something
alessia55
10-11-11, 08:05 AM

Will0W783
10-11-11, 09:32 AM

> I wouldn't call it a "pet", but I am getting a new addition on Saturday.
V Is going to come up with an awesome new topic, because I'm having brain farts today. :-p
Snakefood
10-11-11, 10:19 AM

V will share their longest road trip
Snakefood
10-11-11, 10:58 AM
^ apparently someone has a lead foot!!
> 22 hrs straight with a 3 yr old in the car OH WHAT FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!
V is hopefully smart enough to NOT make a 22 hr car ride with a 3 yr old.
ZARADOZIA
10-11-11, 11:19 AM
^ Too late. Try 26 hours. Drove from Pensacola, FL to Lampasas, Tx. Normaly about 14 hours with rest stops. but because of REALLY REALLY BAD TRAFFIC...total hours driving 26...with a 3 yr old. And even locked my keys AND KID in the car when I stopped for gas. Auto Locks are bad bad bad. Good Spirits were with me, cop was at gas station and popped the locks for me! Woot! AMAZING...finally a cop when you need one!
> Has many many "lock keys in car" stories. I learned how to pop locks because of it. I just need a hangar. Models made after 2005 are a touch more difficult, but still doable. lol
v Will tell us their worst key or driving experience
Snakefood
10-11-11, 11:25 AM
^ yup road trips with toddlers, JOY!!
> worst experience in a car, was when my pregnant girlfriend and I were driving in icy conditions when a truck pushed us of the road, we rolled 3 times and landed in a ditch, passenger side down. I was the passenger for that trip and I had to push an 8 months pregnant lady up and out of the drivers side window, just because I have the BEST LUCK, she promptly went into labor as I was pushing her up and out. Happy ending though, the baby was born healthy and fine, although 1 month early.
V has thier own terrifying story to share.
millertime89
10-11-11, 12:03 PM
^wow... sounds like a terrifying story
<does indeed have a bit of a lead foot. Its gotten me in trouble a few times. I don't really have a terrifying story of my own. However I lost my foster brother (parents took him and his younger brother in) a few years back when he was driving and got hit by a train. I got the phone call while driving to work one morning.
v has another terrifying story to share.
Gungirl
10-11-11, 12:19 PM
^ sorry to hear that...
< is going to change the subject. My dog(brittney/hunting bird dog) heard a flock of geese fly over our house and she ran right into the wall.. DOH! lol
v has another funny story to share
Mikey T
10-13-11, 09:57 AM

> Thinks that anyone coming to Montreal the Night before the Expo on the 23rd (so Saturday the 22nd) should contact me and we all have a little get together.
V Will agree
Snakefood
10-13-11, 10:17 AM
^ sounds like a great idea, but I won't be one of those crossing the country for the expo!!
> funny dog story, my husky has had bad allergies his whole life, when he was much younger, we would use the e-collar to stop him from chewing. He figured out how to get out of it. He would tuck his head/nose into the cone of the e-collar and run (yes RUN) at mach 3 stright into the wall. The force of the blow on the rim of the e-collar would pop it right off of his neck!! I have a smart dog!!
V will share a funny pet story too!!
alessia55
10-13-11, 10:19 AM
^ that's hilarious!
> my cat Tish is a long haired cat but she gets taken to the groomers and given a "lion" haircut (google it). When she comes back, her tail has a little pom-pom on the end of it, a little tuft of hair. My other cat Vodka LOVES it because she thinks its a constantly moving toy to chase! :p
V has yet another funny pet story!
lady_bug87
10-13-11, 10:25 AM
^ haha cats.
>when I took my yorkie to the groomer for his regular shave down the woman left a flap of hair over his testicles (he isnt neutered) when I went and inquired as to why she left it there she said if she shaved it we would be able to see his testicles. The poor dog waddled around and when he managed to run his 'mudflap' would well.. flap. we finally convinced the woman that we were OK with his testicles.
v will keep pet stories coming
youngster
10-13-11, 10:46 AM
^ :o
> When I had two kitties they would chase each other a lot. So one day I was watching TV and Jasmine (I call her the ninja cat cause she's very agile) comes bolting through the living room followed closely by Oliver (kind of dopey). Jasmine jumps onto the coffee table then onto the sofa arm. Oliver tries to do the same thing but when he jumps to the arm of the couch WHAM!!! He does a full on faceplant into the couch. He just sat on the ground dazed after that :P
v Will also keep the funny pet stories going.
millertime89
10-13-11, 10:59 AM
^ninja'd me
<had to take care of my aunt's dog (which I hate) for a few months this summer, it apparently had never had a dog door, and had never had a clear glass patio door. It wanted to go outside, and ran head first into the glass despite having a doggy door.
v will keep the funny pet stories going.

^ has a dog with a funny personality :p
> I've had a pet betta fish for almost 2 years now... It seems to be WAY too forgiving... I've forgotten to feed him several times, don't clean his water as often as I probably should, he's been passed around among my friends... and nothing seems to hurt him. It's not like we're trying to kill him... but we're not sure what we'll do when May comes around and all of my friends and I graduate and he hasn't died yet... :crazy2: He's invincible!
v will tell us if they have a big or a small family, and whether or not they all live within driving distance to each other
Lankyrob
11-08-11, 01:28 PM
^ send the fish to me i seem to be pretty good a killing fish ;(
> has 3 older sisters, wife is single child, both our sets of parents and my siblings live within 30 min drive

millertime89
11-08-11, 01:48 PM
^ must go crazy having so many women in his life
< has NO sisters and is thankful every day for it, just one awesome brother

ZARADOZIA

> My brother and I are very close... We're a year apart and have always gotten along really well. I've always been a "cool" sister, and I know all his secrets. My dad and I also have a great relationship; There's nothing I wouldn't tell my dad. My dad is the type of dad that all my friends always wish they could have. Understanding, generous, but a parent above all. My mom is well... what can ya say about mother-daughter relationships, lol. I'm 21 so we disagree about a lot ;)

<used to put toy snakes, scorpions, and spiders on my mom's pillows when my brother and I were younger. She would always freak out but never got mad at us (awesome mom). One day she picked up what she thought was one of our toys lying in the hallway that we had dropped/forgotten. Well it wasn't a toy... My cat had caught and killed a garter snake and left it lying in the hallway. If I had thought she was freaking out before, her reaction put the others to shame.

< had to save thanksgiving two years ago. My mom, for whatever reason, agreed to host thanksgiving at our house after she spent the weekend in the hospital for a minor procedure. My grandfather, with the best of intentions, told her to get all the stuff from HyVee, the advertisement said you could pick it up 4 hours prior to eating and all you had to do was pop it in the oven. BS. I pick it up, Turkey is frozen solid, everything is in bags, there's a list of instructions a mile long to go with everything. Here it is, 4 hours prior to the time we're supposed to eat, and nothing is ready with a day's worth of prep ahead. My mom has a nervous breakdown, and I start calling every place in the phone book that looks like it might be able to help. I stumble upon a little place called the Honey Ham Company on the opposite side of town (30 minutes there, 30 back) I ask what they can do, and they've got everything I need. Price is crazy, but I just go get it anyways, only person I told is my dad since I was gonna use is credit card. Get home an hour later with everything needed in the car, mom can't believe it, my aunt gets our money back from HyVee (pays for about 1/2 of the replacement food) we donate all of the canned and bagged goods from HyVee to the food bank, the Turkey stays in the freezer, and I somehow managed to save Thanksgiving.
We ate that Turkey today, 2 years later.

A few days after Christmas, a mother was working in the kitchen listening to her son playing with his new electric train set in the living room. She heard the train stop and her son yell "All you sons of b***** who want to get off, get the hell off now, because this is the last stop! All of you sons of b***** that are getting on, get your a**** in the train cause were leaving". The mother went in and told her son, "we don't use that kind of language in this house." Now I want you to go into your room for two hours. When you come out, you can play with your train, but I don't want to hear any bad language.
Two hours later, the son comes out of his room and continues playing with his train. Soon the train stopped and the mother heard the son say, "All passengers who are disembarking the train, please remember to take all of your belongings with you. We thank you for riding with us today and hope your ride was a pleasant one. We hope you will ride with us again soon. For those of you who are just boarding the train, we ask that you stow all of your hand luggage under the seat, remember there is no smoking except on the club car. We hope you have a pleasant and relaxing journey with us today".
"For those of you who are pissed off with the two hour delay , please see the b**** in the kitchen." :p :p :p

Anyway, here is another joke for Rob: :)
There was a mamma mole, a papa mole, and a baby mole. They lived in a hole outside of a farm house out in the country.
One morning, the papa mole reached his head out of the hole and said, "Mmmmm, I smell sausage."
The mama mole reached her head outside of the hole and said, "Mmmmm, I smell pancakes."
As the baby mole repeatedly tried to stick his head out of the hole to get a whiff, he became frustrated because the two bigger moles were in the way.
Unable to take it any longer, the baby mole mumbled, "The only thing I can smell is molasses."

Two old ladies have played bridge together for many years, and naturally they have gotten to know each other pretty well. One day, during a game of cards, one lady suddenly looks up at the other and says, "I realize we've known each other for many years, but for the life of me, I just can't bring it to mind... would you please tell me your name again, dear?" There is dead silence for a couple of minutes, then the other lady responds, "How soon do you need to know?"

BANANA-WALNUT OATMEAL BARS WITH SALTED CARAMEL AND CHOCOLATE
makes 16 bars
1/2 cup golden syrup / mild honey
1/2 cup (4 oz) butter
1/4 cup light brown sugar
1/3 cup + 1 tbsp mashed ripe banana
1 tsp vanilla extract
3 1/2 cups quick-cooking oats (not instant)
optional:
1/3 cup chopped walnuts, toasted
1/4 cup desiccated coconut, toasted
For the salted caramel:
1/3 cup + 1 tbsp dark brown sugar
1/2 cup heavy cream / double cream
1/4 tsp fleur de sel
3 tbsp butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
Decoration: chopped toasted walnuts, toasted desiccated coconut, chocolate chips*
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) and line a 10" x 7" or 9" square tin with baking paper and grease the baking paper.
Melt the butter in a medium-large sauce pan. Stir in the sugar and syrup/honey and cook for 5 minutes over a medium-low heat, while constantly stirring. Add in the mashed banana and cook for a further 2 minutes. Sir in the oats, vanilla and optional extras (if you're adding them in). Pour the mixture into the lined tray, then spread and flatten it out with your hands. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown on top. Leave it in the pan and let it cool on a wire rack.
In a heavy based saucepan, stir together the brown sugar, cream and salt over a low heat until the sugar has dissolved completely. Turn the heat up to medium-high, bringing the mixture to a boil. Let it simmer while you stir constantly with a spatula, scraping the sides and edges of the pan, for 5-7 minutes, until the mixture has thickened slightly. Take it off the heat and add the butter and vanilla. Stir until the butter has melted in, then pour the caramel over the baked base and spread it so it covers the entire surface. Sprinkle on any desired toppings then refrigerate until the caramel is firm. Cut into bars/ squares and serve.
*you can melt the chocolate then dip the base of each square in it and drizzle it on after the bars have been refrigerated like I did.
See the whole thing here: Top with cinnamon: Banana-Walnut Oatmeal Bars with Salted Caramel and Chocolate (http://topwithcinnamon.blogspot.com/2012/05/banana-walnut-oatmeal-bars-with-salted.html)
