He's beautiful! GTPs aren't all that bad. Their teeth are nothing compared to emeralds'. I've been tagged by a GTP once and it wasn't nearly as bad as I'd thought it would be. Also with you getting it this young you should be able to accustom it to handling...they aren't as aggressive as people think they are.

sweet! can wait to see it in a few months, see how green he/she gets.
i was reading they are very had to keep alive a couple sites even said its so bad that you miss a few nightly misting or temp goes out a few degrees and they die on you? i cant believe this to be true but i figured ill ask.i really like them, one day im going try and find one for a decent price and raise one :) i seen 2 in person, one he took it out of the cage and it was fine the other he said is the devil in recarnate, its that mean for no reason just is. so im hoping your is like a little kitten for ya :)

Is my most expensive snake so far. Have heard that they are quite fragile in terms of humidity and temps - have read SOOOO much and spoken to people on here and other "experts" on GTP's before we bring him home.
Just hoping we can keep the little bugger happy and healthy as he is so beautiful - when he arrives i am gonna book a few days to just sit and look at him!

Not really. Those problems are usually with wild-caught, poorly acclimated animals. They can handle a range of temps just like any other python, and while they do need higher humidity, if you miss misting for a night or two they won't just drop dead unless they have other problems. I have mine on an automatic mister and it went out the one day and all my snakes were fine. I misted by hand and fixed it that night. I still do find emeralds easier to keep in general, but the GTPs are not that bad.

He (we think its a he - not sure whether to bother probing as no chance of us breeding it further down the line) should be with us in 13 days time! It was going to be next thursday but as we are in the middle of decorating and moving furniture etc around the shop owner has agreed to put it back a week (he is a GTP freak and i think he likes having it around!!). Already counting down the hours.........

You cannot sex a GTP younger than a year old..their tail vertebrae are just too delicate. You run the risk of permanently kinking and/or paralyzing the tail. My old male Archimedes has a pretty severe tail kink. He'll breed anything that moves, but I imagine someone along the line tried to probe him or pop him too young.

YEah - we were told the same willow - ours hasnt been probed for sexing - the guys in the shop are purely going on the coloring of the tail?? He has kept and bred GTP for donkeys years and says that the tail colouring is different between young males and females.

Oh.....LMAO!! That is too much. Fortunately, he hasn't gotten any ideas with me, but I do have a flying snake that sticks his junk out every time I have to move him to clean his cage. I just look at him and say, "Dude, put those away. I do not need to see that." lol
