Hi all, we recently moved to town from a house in the country. In our old house we had nice pure well water. Now that we live in town we have municipal water that is treated with chlorine. I have been boiling in large batches and treating with reptisafe. I was wondering if I am going overboard? Is there something I should be doing or not doing? Is the chlorinated water safer for them to swim in? etc. etc.
Thanks

for the most part it is OK, if you are really worried, Wal Mart has a filling station that is quite cheap, keeping 5 gallons of bottled water is not that expensive if you do it that way.
To answer your question, I know people who use tap water from the city without a problem.
I use a dechlorinator for my turtles and fish, since they basically live in the water, but for just drinking and soaking for snakes/lizards/rodents I just use tap.

I dont like the taste of our tap water so buy bottled water for me to drink - as it is in the house that is what i use for our snakes and lizards too.
Would i buy it just for them?? Dunno really :)

Considering that the UK still has miles of lead pipes, I would......

scottish water is some of the cleanest on the planet.i suppose its the only good thing to come of all the bloody rain we get.
i'm pretty sure all those nasty lead pipes have been done away with mate.its all plastic pipes now.
down in england where rob is its classed as hard water.this causes lime scale build ups in your kettle and wachine machine.we dont have that problem up here in scotland ours is classed as soft water.our tap water has chlorine and i think fluoride added but it tastes the same as any bottled water ive tried.
imo robs made a good point.if you would'nt drink the water yourself then i suppose your snake should'nt either.
cheers shaun

I don't drink "City" water, it tastes like crap. I was buying bottled water for the snakes when we moved, but then I got a great deal on a couple bottles of reptisafe. So I started using that. Was wondering if I'd have to use it when I soaked them , but it appears not. Thanks for your input everyone.

Well I'm 70% living in Kent and the water STINKS of chlorine, same is to be said for the other 30% of the time I'm living in Sussex. Needless to say my lil snakey gets bottled water :D

The tap water where I live is pretty clean. But I generally try to use a dechlorinating drop.

Evian on tap at my house...... the aquifer under my house is very clean.
(even if my water pump is failing)
The government protects the waterways here, not even the farmers are allowed to let livestock into the stream.
No poo, germs, chemicals or minerals in my water.
