View Full Version : tank plans
I want to set up my whole tank and then look for my new addition I have decided that I am going to get a ball python my husband is going to make the enclosure. He has asked me to add a post asking anyone who has built one to give any suggestions we have looked at many of the posts and am gathering bits and pieces from here and there or use a whole set of plans if they work for us. He has a great ability to build he was a cabinet builder before he went back to school he is also a word turner with a lathe and if he does not know how to do it he learns. Thank you who ever is able to help

Some money saving tips....
Step one, go to a local glass shop and ask for either a canceled order or remnant pane of tempered glass.
I commonly get glass sheets 3-4 foot long for $5 this way. They will not be a standard size, that's why so cheap.
Then you can design the wood part to match the glass size.
Another good source for glass is look in thrift stores for a glass top coffee table, Check rummage sales, flea markets (Boot fairs) and other "off beat" sources for bits of glass on the cheap.

I would also suggest along the road freebies. Old storm doors, windows etc. Freecycle.org or the craigslist freebies section is also a great place for supplies.
Imo, you're going to be disappointed if you build a fancy custom cage for a ball python. I built a custom enclosure for Mister Slithers and it seems he'd be just as happy in a tub. Ball Pythons are very sedentary (even by snake standards). They're perfectly happy to curl up under a hide and stay there until the next rat arrives.
