View Full Version : Injured Eastern Milk Snake
Someone I know recently found an eastern milk snake in his garage. It was tangled in duct tape (there was a taped up box with a loose flap of tape hanging off of it) he pulled the duct tape off, causing a large tear in it's neck. Here's a picture of the milk snake and it's neck:

I currently have him in a 10 gallon aquarium with a screen lid and a heat lamp, which makes a basking spot of 75-78F. Here's a picture of the set up:

Any suggestions on what to feed him? He's only about 15in long and pencil thin.

Neosporin on the wound and pinks as food.
thaw out a frozen pinkie mouse and just leave it in there over night.
Don't be surprised if the snake does not show interest in food right now, that neck looks as if it will be hard to swallow.
I wish we could have addressed this while the tape was still attached, sometimes rubbing alcohol will release the adhesive without harming the snake.

Wayne said it all. I put neosporin at least twice a day. if it doesn't eat right away just wait a week or two. Give it some time to heal. Keep us inform on how it's doing. Best of luck.:)

Don't forget to use Neosporin without painkiller!

I'm putting neosporin on it and he ripped the duct tape off before he called me:sad:

the wound looks nice and clean.the others have covered the best way to care for it.
cheers shaun
He just ate his first pink with me!:) He even took it from my feeding tongs! He didn't have any trouble swallowing it. His cut is also getting a lot better. His scales are growing back. I'll get more pics as soon as I can.
