There has been the entertainment thread of movies, tv and music but I didn't see one on books so I thought I'd start one.

Currently reading:

George R R Martin's A Game of Thrones Rereading the series in hopes that the next book will come out eventually. 5 years late now...

Terry Pratchett's Nation HUGE Pratchett fan.

Just finished :

E.R. Chamberlin's The Bad Popes

I also recently read Neil Peart's ( The drummer for Rush) Ghost Rider and was sorely disappointed. Hope that doesn't offend any of the Canadians here. Love his drumming and lyrics but I did not like that book.

Currently on the last of a collection of 8 Chris Ryan books about ex SAS regiment members living "normal" lives but getting pulled back into military/mercenary life. Chris Ryan is Ex-SAS himself and all his books are based on his life and those of others from the regiment.

read them all rob, chris ryan knows how to put a good book together mate.

just read the fourth realm trillogy,1st the traveller,2nd the golden city,3rd the dark river, they are wrote by john twelve hawks.a really good read and reflection on modern life.how we all live on the grid.the grid being computers, cctv etc, etc.all the tecnology that tracks and imposes on our every day life, most of the time without us being aware of it.the travellers are people who can leave their bodys and travel to 6 other realms, where they gather knowledge and ideals.they have guardians ,normal people who have been raised to be their body guards.a family tradition passed on through hundreds of family generations.they are called the harlequins.famous travellers being folk from history like, joan of arc, cant remember any other examples but visionary people who seemed ahead of their times.the bad guys in this are the bretheren or tabula as they get called.they run the evergreen foundation who want to create a computerised surveillance system in the industrial world this will allow them to establish a virtual panopticon.sorry im rambling on.but these books are some of the best reads ive had in a very long time.
cheers shaun

Yes i get them almost a month before i see them at the pet stores. The one i just got is the August issue. Coffee Black if you do a web search for reptile magazine you will find ton of sites where you can get a year subscription for $15.00. I can remember which one i order from, but $15.00 beat the heck $4.99 at pet store. It's also cheaper than getting a subscription from one of the cards in the magazine.

Lol! i find mythology and religion interesting though! actually i tutor a guy from Saudi Arabia and he was shocked that I possess and have read the Qur'an lol i find it very interesting and believe Islam in general is a more believable religion then christianity (not to step on toes here, just my opinion). and I cant say i blame the guy with the amount of racism hes dealt with in 9 months of being here. we USED to have a very ignorant woman as another tenant in the apartments we both rent who called him a terrorist! its sad how people treat one another :( completely blew me away, hes probably one of the nicest and polite people i have ever met lol

I find all of the mythology and religion fascinating.

The old text book of Mormon has some really interesting concepts in it.

I will not go down this road for fear of offending someone.

I'm just saying it's interesting, nothing else.

I think i'm going to the RCMP after i finish college, the P.A.R.E. test is much easier in my opinion then the P.R.E.P. for the OPP and Ontario based departments, my other option besides the RCMP, OPP, or any municipal police forces would be a Canadian Forces Police officer, and because I have Police foundations i would be promoted to corporal right out of basic training which isnt bad ;) lol

ya i just recently applied for the canadian forces and just spoke to my recruiter about 2 weeks ago, they are not hiring for almost anything at the moment, i joined for infantry, armoured soldier, weapons technition, after that we went down a list of about 10 other things and nothing,i then asked what they are hiring for and it was 2 things vehicle tech and communication tech. so i applied for the rcmp.i will be working my way for a possition on the swat team is my goal. army said their is nothing hiring right now because we will be pulling out in under a year and all the combat arms troops will need positions else where. It took my cousin over a year to get back into the navy after his contract ended as an already trained 4th year marine technition.
on a good note maybe ill see you in regina sask rcmp camp, only 1 in canada and every member of the rcmp goes their for 6 month training, Hooo AH!

Beside college textbooks? Lets see....anything by Richard Marcinko (Rogue Warrior), Dr. Laurence Gardner, Zecharia Sitchin, Dean Koontz, Robin Cook, Tom Clancy. American Bagger magazine, Bass Player magazine, Iron Horse magazine, anything concerning ancient history, religion, politics, philosophy, etc., etc., etc.! These days, though, its mostly college textbooks and more college textbooks!

That book will never come out:mad: . I read the entire series, then reread everything up to crows when that came out, now I have everything shelved until the hbo series is finished. I think he'll start working on Dances with Dragons after that is done.

Currently I am re reading Insomnia, by Stephen King. My Favorite Author has to be Nelson Demille. But I also enjoy anything by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, Scott Sigler, Dean Koontz, King, etc. etc. etc.
