Just under two weeks ago we bought a BCI and about 2 days after we got the snake my boyfriend was looking at the snakes head and noticed that his left nostril has something covering it - since he hasn't shed since we got him I thought perhaps it could be left over skin from his previous shed before we got him? Other than that I don't know what it would be. What's covering it has a black color to it (which he has a lot of black on him).
Anyone else think that it's just skin from previous shed too? Or any other ideas of what it could be?
He doesn't make any audible noises while breathing, no mucus present, no signs of any health problems.

I have pictures of his head but you can't really see what I'm talking about. I'll try to get a picture that will show what I'm talking about tough.

Okay. The first two pictures are of his right nostril (open/clear) the second two are of his left nostril (closed/blocked). This is difficult to capture in a picture because in the pictures it kind of looks like it is open - but it's not - there's something over the hole but you can obviously see where the actual nostril opening is.

Looks like dry skin to me.

So what should we do? Try to get it off? Just leave it be? If we should try to get it off - any ideas on how to do that?
fill a tub with warm (not hot) water and let her go for a swim, should soften up if it's dead skin.

If the snake is otherwise healthy, I would wait for one shed cycle and it will come off naturally.

dont try and pick it off, it usually does the animal more harm then good, i would do as Infernalis says and wait a shed cycle, if that doesnt do anything then id let him/her go for a nice warm swim

He is an otherwise healthy snake so I guess we'll just wait until he sheds to see if it comes off (I'm quite afraid of picking at it since it could harm him). Thanks everyone!

I would imagine so. I know I wouldn't like having someone poke something at my nose.

it should come off next shed by itself.if it retains itself after the next shed then i would think about giving it a soak. i use a cotton bud with some luke warm water.ky jelly is also really good at moistening more stubborn retained pieces of shed.just dab a tiny blob of jelly on it place the snake in a tub with only paper towels as substrate.that way nothing will cling to the jelly.thats a nice healthy cute wee guy you have there.

Just an update about his nose - he received a soaking and during this soaking he voided his bowels and noticed that the skin had also come off his nose at some point during the soaking :)

thats good news,a bath usually results in a pile of poo coming out,ha,ha
cheers shaun
That's why all my snakes have their own rubbermade tubs for bathing. I got tired of picking poo out of the bath tub.
