Welcome to the forum...

Please calm down a minute.

now before you panic, BP have 2 small "spurs" they are perfectly normal, one on each side of the snake near the tail end.

BP constrict and kill the mouse before the swallow it, and digestion reduces the mouse to a puddle of wet poop before the mouse reaches the vent, so it's impossible that a mouse could ever "claw it's way out"

Please don't pick at or try to remove those barbs from your snake, they are a natural part of it's body.

Before I go any further, I would like to see photographs of what you are describing here.

here is a pic of the spurs for you to compare.

hello and welcome

as infernalis has said its most likely to be your snakes spurs.could you post a picture please.dont panic or try to pick at them or you will damage your snake.its good that you've come onto the forum and asked what people think.i'm pretty sure we have all paniced at one time or another about something thats not a problem at all.i remember way back when my first snake went into shed i was flapping like an old mother hen,ha,ha

I think you should stick around for more than just this....

We all are happy to help educate you to make you a better caregiver for your snake, and since you obviously love your snake, I do feel it would be best to stay on the forum and ask lots of questions ;)

as infernalis says you should stay on the forum you'll find its a very helpfull place to be.this forum has for me been the best one ive joined.its full of decent helpfull people who are more than happy to help.we all learn from each other on here.for example,i only keep carpet pythons but i'm thinking of getting some garters.my wife last night asked if i could get her some as she wants to look after them herself.not bad considering she couldnt look at a snake a few years back far less touch or look after them.before i buy any knid of garter i will be asking loads of questions on here regarding the best way to keep them and make them thrive.i look forward to seeing some pictures of your python.

We have all freaked out when something strange happens to a snake we just got. the spurs can be white also and males are typically longer than females spurs. i don't think you have anything to worry about

A 4 and a half foot bp shouldn't be eating mice!
Mine's barely two feet, and he's on small rats.

Panic is pretty much a normal reaction of anyone especially when they are worried about losing a snake or pet....so no worries...(and I've had so many rats/mice escape I could stock a pet store ....well NOT really but I do have escapees)

I do hope you'll stick around.....great group of people here and a very nice solid knowledge base for anyone with questions. No noobs here....just people with questions and people with answers hopefully. Nothing wrong with not knowing something.....just wrong when you don't ask

And welcome to the group!
